I am making an offer on a few guns that are being sold from a local private collection. One is a repro Smith carbine (Pietta) and I would like to know when the barrels were made correctly..... I have read that early models had the rifling backwards....tight at breech and loose at muzzle. Anyone know when this was rectified? Year or serial number? Also looking for a cartridge case or two for a pattern so I can see if I am able to make some for myself. Dixie seems awful high, plus shipping. TIA.

Contact your local NSS-A folks. One of them may go with you to look at the Smith Carbine. They are interesting guns that can be made to shoot quite well. I used to shoot a Gallagher in the carbine class, and almost all of the competition were shooting Smiths.

Thanks Tatume. I'll see what I can find.
