25 Caliber Mold ?

I'm looking for a 25 caliber mold for at least a 100 grain bullet and wondered what was the collective opinion of :

RCBS 2-Cavity Bullet Mold 257-120-SP 25 Caliber (258 Diameter) 120 Grain Semi-Point Gas Check

Whatcha gonna shoot it in? Twist rates for the .25s are all over the place. An RCBS 25-100-RF GC has worked for me in about everything. I never could get a Lyman 117 RN to work for me so I sold it off to a feller with a fast twist .25-35.

Leaning on DJ's text a bit, I tried some samples of the RCBS 120 in my Win 94 x 25-35 a while back, and they shot very well in its 1-8" twist, as do the NEI 114 flatnoses. I also have a Savage 99 x 250 Savage with a 1-14" twist, and it stabilizes NEI 100 spire points all right at 1600 FPS or faster. I don't have 25 caliber rifles with 1-10" twist like the 25-06 seems to come with--perhaps someone else can relate experience with those conditions.

I intend to use the CBs in a 1/10 twist rifle, a 25-06 and a 25 Remington.

I have a suspicion, and it is only a suspicion, that you can't count on stablizing heavy .25 caliber bullets in 1-10" twist barrels at normal cast bullet velocities. One mould is not enough to make a judgment on, even though I tried it in several rifles, but Win choose 1-8" for the .25-35 for a reason.

I do have a slow twist .25-35 Imp (can't remember at the moment whether it is 1-12" or 1-14") that will not stabilize 117 jacketed RN at anything less than 2500 fps and that's marginal.

You'd be a lot better off with someone with direct knowlege, but that's what I know about the subject.

I'm using both the 25-120-SP RCBS and the 25-100-FN in a .257 Roberts (1-10 twist) and they both stabilize and shoot well. Same with my .25-35 with a 1-10 twist barrel.

The curious thing is that both also shoot well with the 257312. I was reading some old stuff on varmint shooting during WWII and the 257312 had quite a following in those days of "no jacketed" store bought bullets.

In my opinion and experience, the 1-10 will stabilize both of the above at velocities up to 2,000 FPS. That boils down to what your preference is in a nose style. The 25-100-FN is Special Order from RCBS so expect to dig a little deeper(unless someone is stocking them and I don't know who)./beagle
