I just received a recent purchase another Star sizer and it came with a sizing die that I'm not well informed about. Picture and info to follow.

The bullet looks like a rifle bullet and weighs 123gr with the gas check. I cannot get an accurate measurement on it due to the condition of the bullet which has spent a number of years inside the die. The punch is machined to fit the nose of the bullet. The punch measures
.310 diameter as measured with my calipers which should mean the die is slightly larger.

Would this be a .303, 7.7 jap, 32/20, 300 weatherby,7.62 russian or 7.65 argintine mauser, 30 carbine, 32 automatic?

Picture of old Star Sizing Die and nose punch. Die has four rows of lube holes.

If anyone is interested in purchasing the punch and die PM me.

My guess would be it's for a 7.62X39. The weight is right, as is the shape.

Hope this helps.

I sold a Lyman mould that casts that boolit a while back.....I don't recall the mould number, but it was originally designed for .30 carbine.

Had to take this dipstick out of my KF to see the post,

but if it weighs ~ 115gr then it's a lyman 311359

ReloaderFred and 454PB I appreciate your comments. Looking at the bullet closely it certainly matches that of the 30 carbine. Measuring the die its look like .311-.312 with my caliper. I may check it more accurately with pin gauges for an actual internal diameter. In checking my Lymans #46 edition it lists a 311359 120gr (#2 alloy ) and that accurately shows what I have in weight, diameter finished, and bullet design. I'm guessing the gas check weighs in there at two or three grains. So, mystery solved.

I picked up some used Lyman moulds and got that one. I had a hard tijme finding out what it was because it looks like the same thing as the 115 gr. version but then I found they used to make heavier version that looked just like it.

And Ideal first made a lighter version also call a 311359 it was listed at 109gr.

http://www.castpics.net/subsite/HistMolds/1929_Ideal_Catalog.pdf page 5 (77 in the catalog)

Also Lyman lists weight as grains of Lyman #2 - a 115gr boolit of pure lead would weigh over 120gr.
