Whichester Model 94 Problem.

Hello, I have been having some problems with my Winchester 94 30-30 and the locking bolt falling out. I was asked to take pictures of the receiver to help aid the problem.. Moderators if this is in the wrong forum I apologize and ask that it be moved to the correct one.

First the right and left side of the receiver.

Thank you for any help anyone can offer, I appreciate it. The rifle belonged to my grandfather and was used and hunted hard. This is the condition it was given to me.

Check the pin that holds the lever to the bolt and the lower tang. If the pin is bent/broke it will let the lever drop down to far. If the front of the lower tang is damaged it may let the bolt swing back and drop out. Also look at the bolt itself and make sure it has nothing broken. This is one of those areas where I would need to have the bun in hand to see exactly what the problem is.

I'd like to resurrect this as there was no further posts on it. My .38-55 is doing exactly this and I found this post on a google search. I think my bottom tang is worn. Anything I can do besides replace it?

Most common cause is the pin that connects the bolt to the lever.. you have to remove the upper screw on the front lefthand side of the receiver to see if it is broken. Do this with the action closed, bolt forward.

Mine is doing the same thing, and the pin is fine and in correctly. It's a big puzzle.

Took two of my Model 94's and tried to duplicate the problem, but couldn't.

I have to agree with John Tailor and Autofix4U, as to the problem as it seems the only explanation. Either the pin in broken/bent or the end of the lever that attaches to the bolt via the pin is broken through.
