I got this on ebay and its garbage. It is way out of calibration, even with all the shot removed from the cup,its 99 grains heavy.I think this must be a rare item because I cant find it anywhere. Its cast aluminum, not the polymer one.

Could be the wrong pan.

Send it to RCBS and they will treat you good.

Well I have one of those too......got it when I bought up some reloading equipment a few years ago. Nice & heavy but it drove me nuts. One time is was on, then over, then under, & doesn't hold zero. I'm sure when it was new it was a quality piece but I think the knife edges on the beam balance are boogered up. Not sure if it can be repaired probably 60's -70's model
That pan is way different them mine which is smaller and aluminum colored

You have to make sure the base is dead nuts level, and that the blades are sharp and clean, in order for that scale to work. I'll agree to the posted vintage.

You may have the wrong pan.
There are some pans of that shape that are steel. My RCBS pans are aluminum.

Then again the pan hanger maybe the wrong item too.

Looks a little an old Redding.

Is that an oil balance scale?
Is there a paddle that hangs down, below the pivot?
If yes, then it needs oil to dampen the swings.

Problem solved,I sent it back to the guy who stuck me with it for a refund. He had to know it was off.All he did was cause aggravation on both ends.He even said "do you realize how to calibrate a scale by removing shot".Sorry brother I didnt order a scale kit.I'll prolly be out 10 bucks shipping, but I never saw a lousier scale.

It don't look like a RCBS 505 to me ... as others have said though the pan definitely is the wrong color.
