I finally got a chance to do some shooting with a good friend of mine this weekend (after about a year of not breaking the trigger on anything) and I would have the chance to shoot my favorite pistol. My 7.5" BFR in 500 S&W- load was a 440 Lee over unique pushing right at 1100 fps. Pussycat load for this cannon, and accurate as heck. It only took 13 rounds to destroy the Millett SP2 mounted on top. I guess it is time to get an ultradot. Probably the 30mm with an extra ring. Too bad, it was REALLY fun while it lasted!

BTW, that boolit smacking a steel plate at 50 yards just makes you giggle like a little girl every time you hear it........ :bigsmyl2:

I have a 5 1/2 bfr in 500 jrh, for testing loads for accuracy im using a weaver 2-8 in four rings so far so good . I have a ultra dot standing by as soon as I get the right loads the ulta dot goes on. From what I hear from others it will more then handle the 500 jrh. I have a 440 accurate bullet mold pls pm me your unique load I would like to try it . So far my accuracy load is a 385 gr pb accurate mold with hp38 and blue dot tks ken

Yeah, Millet and Bushnell will pull the front prizm lens from the cheap glue. I fixed a few by steel bedding the glass back in but it MUST go back in the same position.
I was buying Warne rings until I found the rings that come with the UD work, I use three on the JRH but you can go with four. Just don't mount any ring on any red dot directly over glass. I use the front extension put on TIGHT for an additional ring.

No way from me! :bigsmyl2: You are missing out with your gun. That thing can do 1/2" at 100 yards with a 440 gr for 5 shots. You bought a cannon so stuff 29.5 gr of 296 behind that boolit with a Fed 155 primer.
Can I beat on you for making a JRH a .38 SP? [smilie=l:
When I got mine, I had to put an old Loopy on it until I could buy the UD. I layed 5 shotgun shells on the sides with the bases to shoot at, 50 yards. I hit all five with five shots, only found three.
Then I taped one on the 100 yard target when I had the UD, took two shots, missed by 1/2" with the first but hit with the second.
Yeah 440 gr at 1350 fps.

That 440 grain boolit at 1,100 fps is around 1,200 ft lbs. That will kill anything on earth. For me that would be a perfect load.

That is very true but mine goes 1350 fps just because of accuracy. The WD, WW boolits are too hard for deer and just poke a hole so 1100 to 1200 would do better but I shoot deer to 120 yards+. I just can't give up accuracy. I could care less if I miss a can but the boolit MUST go to the dot on an animal at whatever range I shoot.
I am not a nut with a rest for deer and try distances too far. I can hit a can at 200 meters but ethics comes in for hunting. I have a limit and only accuracy counts. I am able to hold 6" at 100 off hand and have done 3/4". Shooting bottles of water I think I reached 1/2" off hand.
Yet a 6" group from a rest at 50 yards does not buy it at all for deer.
What is "good enough"? It depends on distance so if you shoot deer at 20 yards or under 50, it is "good enough".
My problem is when you buy a large gun expecting it to eliminate your ability to hit and still kill because of power instead of accuracy, I am going to tell you to use a .44.

44 man So far the worst accuracy I have got is with the 440 and 29.5 296 and mag primers. My gun seems to like the 385 and 296/mag primers Still working on it I started with 28 gr 296 and it shot far better then 29.5 with the 440 bullet. Now all 440 bullets are not the same and you very well might have a better design then mine . Will keep you advised tks ken

With my BFR, I have worked that boolit up to about 1700fps and I can tell you that it is no fun to shoot- AT ALL! It is like someone dropped a stick of dynamite 2 feet in front of my face. I am sure it is accurate, but not from my hands. I dont get out to shoot enough to load it to its full potential. Someday I would like to, but my unique load is plenty accurate!

I can't say but maybe it is the boolit. You can come and cast some of mine, shoot my loads. You are not far away. We MUST get together.
