I was in Wisc. last week and picked up a Herters bulletmaker press along with what seems to be tooling for it and a large box of copper 1/2 jackets in various sizes. All this came from an "estate sale" more like a hoarders cave. Is there some place to find instructions on how to use this equipment or a you tube video. I have been casting for many years but never tried swaging. There was a lot of .40 1/2 jackets and I happen to own a couple of them but most of the stuff is 30 years old or more.
Thanks in advance for any help.

the age shouldn't really matter as long as everything is in working condition. Perhaps a photo or two with what you have.

I am still waiting for it all to get here. I had to pack up a dozen boxes of reloading stuff and ship it home.

There also is a sack of threaded shell holders in various sizes. I am thinking they allow this to be used as a regular reloading press.

That is a copy of the CH4D half jacket swage press. I have a copy of the Herter's instructions if you want to PM me your e-mail address I will scan them and e-mail them to you. Do you know what dies and nose punches you have?

I have just whats in the picture I will mike them and see what size they are. there seems to be matching top and bottom parts. The nut on the ram is still stuck so I may have to give it a little heat.

I PM'ed you but thought I'd post it here as well. Catshooter has the instructions for the CH4D on Castpics. I had emailed him the Herter's instruction sheet but it is essentially a copy of the CH4D instructions.

Go down to the bottom of the page, click on CastPics, and go to the copies of instructions or something like that. Click on the CH4D instructions and it will come up.

I have an old Herter's book with lots of equipment and reloading info in it so if you are missing anything let me know and I will take a look to see if I have anything useful.

I found this in one of the boxes of stuff I think it is for making a lube groove or cannelure in a swaged bullet. If you could check and see if it is in your old catalouge.
Thanks

That is the Herter's bullet cannelure tool. I might? have the instructions for it. I do have the tool NIB.
The Bullet Maker cannot be used for reloading, however Herter's got double milage out of the frame. It was sold as the Model 9 and 9A reloading press. The Model 9 used standard Herter's shellholders and had a primer arm. The 9A used Herter's thread on shellholders and ram prime system. Note: these Model 9's are not to be confused with the Model 9 "H" press of 1953.

I have a sack full of the threaded shell holders that I thought came with it. They all have letters on them for sizes. I still have not got the bottom nut loose to see if they fit. I may have to heat it up to get it loose.

Herter's shellholders are numbered. Shellholders with a letter sounds like old style Lee primer tool shellholders. They have value also.

I found another sack of dies in the bottom of another box in this haul. I now have dies for 3 types of .45, .430, .40, .38 special and .32 along with a few thousand 1/2 jackets so where do I get some lead wire to try this out?

There are a couple of guys on eBay that sell lead wire. Half jackets are another problem. I'm experimenting with using .40 S&W brass cut down, a la Brian's idea, but just as a half jacket.

If you are interested in selling any of what you have PM me.
