I normally load 12 ga 525 grain lyman slugs and always have both longshot and herco around, but not my favorite as its quite dirty to the longshot in my 11-87, mostly the gas system!

Also new to rifle reloading(have the press and that) and noticed 2400 seems to be the go to powder for cast bulllets but noticed my standby powder for the shotgun is on that rifle list in 308 making me wonder if a load is possible using longshot, esp as the 44 magnum load data for herco from 44 mag is 2-3 grains off 308 data.
I figured using the longshot 44 magnum data as a starting point and as its a larger case, 1-2 grains max as a starting point, i recall this brass has a rating of 50K and i recall the longshot 44 mag loads in the 30K range.

anyone know of any tested(eg: psi, etc) loads using this powder and the moulds listed in the cast bullet handbook in either 308 or 54R?

update: fired four test rounds at the range today using 18.1 grains to 20.1 grains of longshot and had no pressure signs on the 18 grain loads or the 20.1 grain loads. I used the 460 smith and wesson to get a starting point(200 grain bullet) and had no leading in the mosins barrel using a lyman 311291, 170 grain GC bullet.
In case anyone wonders why i'd use a handgun/shotgun powder for this purpose, i often have lots of it around, and it uses less powder then the equal rifle loads, reloader 7 takes nearly 30 grains to hit herco/unique powders fps, so longshot is still viable for that fps.
