I ordered a 290 grain from Dan at mountain with .390" out of case. .060" of which will be full .432, and a 78% frontal (.336"). I think most of the design is fine, and I know I can cut my cases back if that .060" is too much, but. I guess my question is. Do You guys think it will be too much?

I use the Lyman 429640 in the .444 and cut cases down to 2.125" as they were too difficult to chamber with a standard case length. No problems whatsoever.

chambering was not really any issue with mine; it was too long to run through the magazine tube.

I could get them in, but cycling the lever always jammed them if they were too long.

I've been playing around with 1:38" Micro-Groove bbl in a .444 Marlin for about a year now. Boolits I've tried have been the Ranch Dog 265, and the MP-433-300HP. Altho I've used .432-.433 diameters as well as heat treating both designs after sizing, I still haven't gotten the accuracy that some of the folks on the Marlin forum site have been claiming with theirs. At the suggestion of one of them, I'm gonna try seating my boolits out a little farther than I have been doing. Instead of worrying about cartridge case length, I'm gonna do what they suggest and play with the Lee Factory Crimp Die to achieve a good crimp and still obtain an OAL that will still feed properly. Stay Tuned!
