Bought a group of items from an estate sale. Most of the powders were familiar to me except for the ones pictured here. I have seen some load data on some but nothing on WAP. Some places say it is the predecessor to Silloette (sp?)

I load for 44 mag. 38/357, 9mm, 45 colt, 45 Acp plus common rifle but I think these are all pistols powders. Can anyone advise as to the best use?

The 748 is a medium burn rate ball rifle powder, 231 and WAP are fast pistol powders. Data for all of these is available from Hodgdon in either print form or on line.

748 is my favorite 223/5.56 powder, but I have used it in 30-06. The 231 will work in your 45 acp, and maybe some of your other pistols.

Looks like 748 is good for 30-30 and 30/06. With the powder shortage that might be worth a try. Appreciate the input.

748 is one of the two powders I use in .223 & .308. As long as as you don't heat the barrel up it does great. Doesn't matter if you are using it for hunting loads.

231 is great for 45acp, kinda like bullseye. Anything you would use bullseye for you can use 231.

231 and 748 are two of my favorites. I use 748 in 30-30 and 231 in 45 ACP. Also sometimes use 748 in 222 Remington. Hard to beat.

If you need load data for WAP i have some ! ive used it mostley in the 38 super but have tried in in some other caliber with good results, this powder is now discouned , i still have about 3 or 4 lbs left in my 8 lb jug.
I have also used 748 & 231 with excellent results

Yes, WAP is now Ramshot Silhouette. Same load data works for both. Designed for more velocity from higher pressure cartridges like the 40 S&W and 9mm. Switched from WSF to Silhouette (WAP) in these, and happy with the results. Out of the calibers you listed, only the 9mm would be a good choice for WAP, and prefer it much more than W231, (which I use for 38's and 45 ACP).

W231 and HP38 are now the same thing, but at some point they were different. Don't know which one was changed to match the other, but load data was not the same in older load manuals. Not sure if this matters with the w231 that you have with 9-7-99 written on jug.
