I just got done loading 75 rounds of 45-70 for a event our rifle club is hosting for women tomorrow. I'm loaded the majority of that with unique for reduced loads for my sharps, Looking to do the same with my 40-65 Sharps. I simply can not find any data in with my books on unique and 40-65. I've seen a few references to 14gr but no bullet weight.

Can anybody give me some guidance on a load using unique and bullet weights?

I see that you have not been covered up with reply's to your inquiry.

the old stby of 10 grains should be a grand starter. this should be great with any boolit you normally shoot. Unique is a cheep and fun alternative in just about any gun you wanna try it in.

Agree w/BigTed on this one- 10gr Unique seems to be an easy on everything load in a big case- I use it in 30-30, 32-40, 38-55- don't see why it shouldn't work as well in 40-65 as well- your reference to 14gr might be even better in that BIG case. I'd try to go on the lighter end of the boolit weight range if possible tho, just to keep it safe. Have fun, but try it out before you hand the rifle to newbies and ladies!

I use to use Unique in mine and I believe that the load was 14gr with a 350gr boolit. It gave great accuracy to 200yd. The twist rate was 18 on that particular rifle.

My standard load was 12 or 12.5 grs. Unique with a 290 grain Old West for a little over 1200 fps.

I'll give this load a try on my own sometime, I ended up running through most of the 45-70 I had loaded up....The ladies that shot the AR-15's really well (playing card size groups off the bags at 50 yards) I would let them shoot at 100 on my steel I had set up, if they hit that then we went out to 200, if they hit my gong at 200 I let them shoot the Sharps....MAN did they have a blast hitting that.....I've trained about 1,300 shooters so far most of those in small bore...and I have to say this was the most fun I've had teaching....hard to get a reaction out of a smallbore shooter....but you give a woman that has never shot before a big'ole gun and 2 minutes of instruction and she hits a gong at 200 yards....yeah that is pretty dang fun.

We had 81 women at the event.....the majority having never shot before or the classic "my husband tried to teach me once"

10 grains of Unique under the RCBS 300 grain boolit gives about 1050-1100fps in my .40-65 Greener Martini. Great accuracy and low recoil--fun to shoot!

I use 14grs with the Lee 45 cal 300gr or Lymans .446" boolit. I do want to try a 200gr 45 cal pistol boolit just to do it.
