I was just looking at a handi combo 22lr/243/20g for about $250. I had great luck with a 243 handi I bought a number of years ago so I was thinking of another.

Back in the day I had one in a Remington 700BDL. Lived in Whittier, CA then, bought Sierria seconds from the factory. Shot at the South Coast Gun Club then, and was shooting there when a guy came up to me and asked if I had ever tried H870? I had not heard of it then. He told me "You ought to try it, it's so slow it burns all the way to the target!"

I did try it and it became my go to powder for this rifle. I now have an 8lb jug of WC867 upstairs. It says to use 8700 data, the same as the old H870. No 25-06 now, but waiting on a 25 Krag AI. Just 2 grains of powder less capacity than the 25-06, in a Martini action, so I prefer the rimmed cartridge.

With that rifle, H870, and Sierra seconds up to 117 gr I would routinely shoot <1" groups @100yds. I had a Leupold 3-9 scope on it. I would get a target that had four square bulls on it. I would lay the crosshairs on the corners of the bull and proceed to shoot four groups to each bull.

I think it is the 1975 version of the Sierria Manual that had the H870 data in it.

Sorry, that was years before I started casting. That rifle went when our first was born. He's 31 now.

I can't help w/boolits either. Like Wayne my Dad shot Serria 2nds in a 700 BDL 24'' bull bbl . I get all drooly just thinking about it .

He shoots 52gr of IMR 4831 under 117gr flat base SP and I think 54 under an 87gr HPBT. He and a Marine use to go desert walking, some 40yr ago, the black tail jacks weren't fair game under 300 yd and many yotes were dropped well beyond 300 w/the 87s. I killed my 1st buck at 350yd rested on 6000lbs of granite w/ the 117s.

The 4831 is slow enough it should work well w/120s i'd think. I'm looking forward to this thread having a 257 Bob and that 25-06' in the future.

I never heard of anyone attempting to shoot G/C lead out of a 25-06. That's a first. I surely wouldn't do it with mine. I have never seen a reloading recipe for doing it. But give it a try if you want too.

Don't have a handi rifle, but do shoot cast in 25-06. I shoot Lyman 257420 and 257454. Both give decent accuracy, surprisingly the 257420 shoots a little better (my gun shot heavier jacketed best). In my gun 14.5 gr 2400,1850fps. was the best load with the heavier bullet and 19.5 gr 4198 + dacron filler, 1975fps. for the lighter bullet.
Lyman cast bullet handbooks have data for 25-06 with cast, plus use the search function on this site.

Try forming brass out of .30-'06 and compare loaded neck dimensions to a pound cast of your chamber.
