Hello all,

I want to build a load for my Colt 357 Trooper Mark IV. I'm partial to the Elmer Keith designs, but would like to load a few and try them before I chase down a mould. Anyone willing to cast a few 18 or so (revolver) I would be glad to pay for them. Here's a pic of what they will come out of :)

Are you aware you can't use the crimp groove with 358429 in a .357 as the OAL will be too long? 358477 was designed to take care of that problem. I do have both and could fix you up if you like. PM if you care to.

The 358429 works in .357 in guns with cylinders that are long enough. I cannot recall off the top o' my head if the cylinder length on your Trooper would work or not?

I shoot it in my Security Six all the time. 358477 is roughly 150 gr. and is a good .357 boolit. The 358429 is rated at 173 gr.+- and is an excellent plain-based boolit for .357 mag.

NC, I'm sure there are a few guys on this forum much more knowledgeable than me who could tell you right away if your cylinder would be long enough.

If it IS and you can confirm that, I'd be happy to send you some of the 358429's for you to try out.

Calling any revolver Dr.'s in the house! Anyone know for sure?

Thanks Paul (again) I took my gun apart and have been measuring and doing math :groner: so it would be good to hear from someone that knows. Although MikeW1 is sending me some of both. So I guess I will find out that way too. Thanks again Paul.

It depends on who made it, and when. The nose on my NOE 358429 is .351, and on my Ideal, it is .383 forward of crimp groove. Lyman had several varieties. We had a lengthy discussion of the OAL in this thread about the GP100 shooting it.

358429 does not fit in my Colt Trooper. The 358477 looks good though. Anyone have a 358477 mould they want to get rid of?

I had a spare mold and sent it off to Eric to get hollow pointed. Get mold and works well in my S&W 586.
Should be using the converted mold shortly.
