A friend of mine inherited a single six with the 10 in (I think) barrel 22lr and mag cylinders. It came with a nice leather holster and some ammo.
She called yesterday and asked what she should ask (price wise for it) A couple of friends was interested in it.

I told her that I would give 500 for it, the holster, both cylinders and 3 bricks of ammo, so get more than that. I am thinking I might have been a little light on the price, the gun is like new.

Am I inline pricewise, in todays dollars, or should she ask more??? She could throw in some 22 mag ammo too.

Brand new about 570 on the Ruger site, I would say a bit more with ammo, and if she needs money,
it would go for a good cause.

I think 500 is a little light for the package (unless I was the buyer). I'm thinking more like 650 or so. If it is an older 3screw then it would be more. JW

575-625 depending on condition, for the package. The gun itself is worth the 500, three bricks of 22 LR are gold right now, easily 30-40 dollars a piece, and a holster that could go for 20-45 bucks.

It is a new model not a 3 screw. I told her I would give her 500, so get more than that. The other guys are friends and sort of relatives to both of us, so we will see what happens from here. I probably should have told her six, but oh well. She hasn't called back, so probably one of them offered her more. As far as the ammo being gold, she offered to give me several bricks when I was down there last week, I turned it down, as I have plenty, and didn't want to carry any checked baggage with me on the return trip.

Betting it's a 9 1/2" bbl...I have one...it's a 1974 so is a "new model"...has fluted cylinder for 22lr and non fluted for the 22 magnum...all original with original wood grips...I paid $450 for it with no ammo...they are wonderful fun guns and you may be about right except for the ammo situation...I can't keep up with what 22 ammo costs....last I bought was well under $20 a brick....82935

I am sure you are right about the barrel length.
She probably has a thousand rounds or so of 22 mag, she will have no use for if she sells the revolver. I will likely make her a fair offer for it if my wife is still down there, so she can fly back with it. The rest of her 22 shels she can use in her rifle.

I bought a brand new stainless 5.5" back in March to give to my son. I paid $479 plus tax.

Those long barrel Single Sixes bring a premium here, around $100-150.00 extra.

+1 ^ If it was a standard length (4 5/8 or 6 1/2") barrel, It would be a 350 to 400 dollar gun, but the ammo would still be the same. I have more 22 lr ammo than any store I have been in in the last 9 months, and I don't have all that much==perhaps 2000 rounds all told. Don't know where it's going, but "they" swear they are running the machines day and night.

I am sure the long barrel is a little more expensive. It would be worth more to me anyway. She knows and understands, I would only buy it if it was a good deal, so I just gave her a base price of what I would pay for it. The other two can bid against each other. I may just call and see what they offered, both of them are about as fair as you can get.

Well the other guys turned it down at least for the moment. I haven't talked to her, but my wife is staying at their place while she is trying to get her mothers estate lined out, and she told her she would rather sell it to me anyway. I am thinking about sticking to my original deal, but make a separate deal for the 22 mag ammo, with the stipulation that she can buy the gun back at anytime. She inherited it from her dad, and I really hate to see her sell it, to start with.

Well I wound up buying The single six, with both cylinders, the holster and all the 22 mag ammo she has for it and a brick or two of long rifle (which I am not concerned with) for 600 bucks, with the deal that if she ever wants it back, she can buy it back, sans the ammo. She came up with that deal when I told her what the ammo was bringing these days. I think it is a fair deal both ways what do you guys think.?

Yep, I'd say.. Especially with the buy back clause. You can now sleep well. Mike

I was just thinking, a dangerous thing for me, about the 6" (I believe) model single six with both cylinders that I bought back in `69. The gun had 1/2 a box of .22 mags thru it and was traded back to the dealer for a shorter barreled model for trapping, to long of a barrel the guy claimed. I paid $59.00 for it out the door, box and all paperwork, this included taxes. Shells for .22`s are still going about $65 - $75 a brick here abouts, haven`t seen any in any stores since Jan.Robert

I picked up four 500 round bricks from a private seller a few days ago for 25. bucks a brick. They are remington, and not my first choice, but at 5 bucks less than WALLMART is charging when they have them, I couldn't turn it down.
There is somewhere between 500 and a thousand rounds of 22 mag ammo, ( I didn't count them when I was there) she said she would throw in two or three bricks of long rifle, but I told her not to bother.
