Question about Ben's Red

I've gathered all the ingredients. I have the recipe:

50% Beeswax
30% Lucas Red & Tacky
10% JPW
5% STP Oil Treatment
5% Dextron II/III ATF (actually mine is Dexron III / Mercon - it was the closest I could find to old school Dexron)

My question is:
Do I measure by weight or volume?

I based mine on volume and it came out fine. I used dex/merc atf from auto zone and that too seemed to work.
If the original dexron shot any better than what i came up with i wouldn't be able to stand it.

Is done a few batches, all by volume. Remember, volume will change once you components melt so watch that.

Bens Red is the finest lube ever devised.

I use measurements by weight. The specific gravity of all the components are within practical range to give correct ratios by weight.......

You wont find original Dexron, if I'm correct.
Go with what Dean posted and as he and I both do and go with volume.
Do a search for the making of Bens Red and you'll find out the best way to prepare your batch

I weigh all my ingredients because it easier when everything is cold and "stiff". I was lucky enough to have the old Dextron on hand, but from what others have reported any ATF seems to work. And yes, Ben's Red Lube is the best lube I've used, plus it is easy to make if you follow Ben's instructions.

You're going to make a 1/2 batch, I'd just take a tube of R&T and halve it. If it's too tacky after mixing and letting it set up, just remelt and add a little more beeswax to help stiffen it up

Do you need a heater for this lube.

No heater needed, but melt it out doors or move your pillow to the couch. It stinks to high heaven. Mrs. Rintinglen promised me dire consequences if I ever made it in the house again. Best make sure the neighbors are none to close either--it's that bad.

I bet this lube is as slick as Owl Doo Doo. Can't a lube be too slick?

Measure ingredients using a paint stick. Mark percentages on paint stick then pour up to that mark. Container must have strait walls like a quart size paint can.

When a lubes too slick, you get neck tension problems.
Don't know why you'd use a paint stick when a pyrex measuring cup is quicker, easier and consistent on measurements.

I took an old "good will" obtained sauce pan and scratched 10 equal measurements up the inside, thus giving me an indicator of 10% graduations. I add the ingredients and warm them at the same time. Going slow it's easy to fill a particular % of this or that by reaching the graduation lines.

Assume you mean for the lube sizer. Not unless you are lubing in a walkin freezer.

Paint stick is just as quick and easy. You will need somthing to stir with anyway. No need to mess up that measuring cup. I use strait wall soup cans to melt/mix then throw away.
