I could spare some 38 brass and boolits if some newbie could use them. no post minimum just an honest help out

I can add a set of Steel 38 Special dies. These are steel, so you have to lube your brass. These are also 38 Special only and will not do 357 magnum.

Yes please to both. I have not been able to shoot my .38 in a long time. I have some primers but no .38 dies and few boolits and brass. I teach youth firearms classes and the .38 is so much better for beginners than 9mm or .40 but I have run out of ammo for it. This would be a huge help for me.

I would love to be able to cast for it. I have a casting pot, thermometer and a .40 lee mould. I can get some range scrap for lead. I would need a .38 mould and eventually a lube sizer.

The kids shoot mostly .22 but I always have some who want to try a bigger gun. So far I have been able to find .22 but we would like shoot .38 or 9mm for the older ones. I have the same problem with not having 9mm molds and dies. I have reloaded for a while but just started to cast.

The generosity of this board amazes me. I am truly grateful not only for me but also for the kids.

Brett, would 1000 pcs of 38 special brass be enough for you? Let me and I will get it off to you early next week

I am amazed by all of this. On top of the offers above BrassMagnet spent an hour on the phone with me today giving advice and explaining some of my mistakes. This is a great place.

Do you have a press????

Brett
09-27-2013, 12:25 PM
beezapilot,

I do have a press. It is an old (70's) RCBS rockchunker. Some day I want to add a turret or a progressive. Right now it me takes two or three days to do 500 rounds of .40 s&w.

OK- I've a press that will end up in PIF- Good luck up there.

I would like to suggest you put the press up in Helping Hands. Then choose who you believe is most deserving rather than fastest.

I'm being lazy here, is there a Lee mold that will work for 38/357/9mm?

Since my best results in many 9mm pistols have come with cast bullets sized at .357-.359, I will say that any Lee bullet in the 120-150-grain range THAT WILL FEED CORRECTLY should do fine in your guns. A couple of my pistols would even feed semi-wadcutter designs quite reliably! However, try to begin with a profile that is a wee bit more "feed-friendly" than a SWC...

Obviously, this will take some careful thought and experimentation on powder charges and seating depths, but they should work.

I would commence the research with bullets sized at .356, but I would then increase the diameter in steps until chambering during live firing became iffy or accuracy worsened.

I am thinking of getting a mold for Brett, if I could get one that would do 38/357 and 9mm, that would be optimal

358-125-RF gets my vote. Brett PM me your addy I will get you some Lee 358-105- SWC and I think I have a few 125 lying around. That way you can try them out. I will size them to .358 and Hy-Tek lube them for you.

Brett has a mould with handles in the mail. Also, a sizerluber with sizing die and top punch. The steel 38 dies failed inspection. He has carbide dies on the way. Also a Little Dandy powder measure. He needs a #00 rotor.
I forgot to include mould lubricant in the box. Anyone willing to include some of Randy Rat's Zip Lube or some Bull Plate lube in their care package? He also need hollow stick lube for a 450 sizer.

I can cover the hollow stick lube. I have a 4500 so I assume it will work in a 450. Also how are you looking for 9MM brass? I have some mixed HS that I can throw in the box.

His new mould is a RCBS DC 38-148-WC. He could surely use a SWC or RN design.

I don't know how to thank all of you. Your generosity is truly overwhelming.

Pull the trigger,
Thank you for starting this thread and for the outpouring it has inspired. Thanks for the Boolits and Brass.

BrassMagnet,
I can't even start to list my thanks for all you are doing for me.

Joe504,
BrassMagnet and I discussed on the phone that I should look into getting a SWC or RN mould as the kids might mistake a wadcutter for a empty or blank shell. So while I couldn't ask for more than the board is doing I would be truly grateful for the mould you offered.

starreloader,
Thank you for the brass. It will take a while to get through it but I am looking forward to it.

beezapilot,
Thank you for offering the press I am sure whoever gets it will feel as blessed as I do now.

BruceB,
Thanks for your post with advice about 38s and 9mms. I wouldn't have known where to start.

Tx reloader72,
Thanks again for the boolits. Having some ready to load and to test will let me get the kids out to the range quicker.

gspgundog,
Thanks for the stick lube, I have a small amount of 9mm brass but I could always use more. Thank you.

To Everyone,
Thank you, give me time, I will try to think of a better way to say that.

Hey Guys,

We did a youth Shotgun class on Saturday. Thought you might like to see some pics. We had 8 for NRA first steps shotgun and shotgun merit badge. We did the three hour course then stayed on the range for another three hours. 3 of the boys had to leave early but the 5 who stayed were all able to get the merit badge. They have to hit 25 out of 50 clays.

I'm retired and new to reloading and could use some 38 brass and boolits for startup.
I have friends collecting lead and cases from ranges.
I don't own a press yet but thinking of getting one of those $30 lee loaders to start.
I have a Ruger "old style" SA convertible revolver.
Looking for some advice and help. Thanks, Tom

If you want to work 12 hour days for a 3 day weekend to load 100 rounds of ammo the Lee loader is a great choice. It is also a great choice for a backup/portable plan.
A single station press is a much better choice. A turret press would be even better than a single station press as you would only have to adjust the dies once and could come back and load some more.

trys357,
take a look at this one from Titan Reloading. Its aluminum but it works well for learning on. I have one I use to size bullets. Standard Dies/shellholders fit.

I'd send ya mine but I need it.

"If you want to work 12 hour days for a 3 day weekend to load 100 rounds of ammo the Lee loader is a great choice."

Obviously, you are exaggerating to make a point, but you can do 60 rounds an hour. I like using them. The logic behind this dictates we all use 1050s as anything else is too slow and a waste of time.

Thanks for the advice ... looks like a turret press would be best investment for a start.

Obviously using 1050s is too slow and a waste of time. I was eyeballing that Camdex JS-63 motorized in 38/357, but it went too quick. It wouldn't even interfere too much with my coffee drinking!

Trys357- what a coincidence!!!!!!!!!! PullTheTrigger gave me a heads up that you can use a press and I just happen to have a press you can use- it is an older, repainted RCBS press that I used for years and years. Just like me- old & ugly, but still works just fine. PM sent.

Does any one happen to have a heater for a lyman 450. I used a heat gun today and it worked but I don't have enough hands to work that way. By the way I found the o- ring at a small local hardware store.

I bought the 1 inch and the 1 and 1/16 inch. I am using the 1 but I think either would work.

Almost 2 times the price for the smaller O-ring, was it gold plated?

Can anyone suggest a good online source for a 38/357 mold.
