Guy,s I been casting my own bullets for many years.I buy my lead from scrap yards,
& use sheet lead almost all the time.Last time I went they did not have sheet lead.

They did have a hundred lb chunk of lead. Not knowing what it came from I just did
the ole finger nail deal, to see how hard it was.It seemed soft so got it.I,m seeing
something in this lead I have never seen when poring it.There is blue flakes in it
some times.

Anyone have a clue?

Blue flakes in probably just oxides from the lead getting too hot when smelted, should be close to pure.

Yes purple, blue is a sign for pure or near pure lead that is oxidizing.

I usually get blues and purples until I flux. Cannot tell that it causes any issues with the cast bullet.

Pure for sure. Add lead shot at 1000 grains per 10 pounds, or tin if you have it to get rid of the colors. Ron

Please do not waste good lead shot by melting it! I would be happy to swap lead for shot and pay the shipping!

1000 grains of lead shot is only a couple ounces. If you need shot that bad that you want us not to use a couple of ounces you must be hurting for shot. BTW I use reclaimed shot but you wouldn't want it for hunting loads. but still a 1000 grais is not much to fuss about.
