New to this game, need help Loading Buckshot

I am very new to the shotgun reloading thing so bare with me.
I have a MEC 600 JR press, Nitro 27 hulls, WAA12 wads and 800x powder.
Last night i tried putting 9 pellets in the hull and had a little problem. The WAA12 wad seams to tight to fit 3 pellets per row. i can force them and get 9 in the hull but the hull has bumps on the outside of the case. I was reading that its ok to cut the petals off the shot cup. but being new to this i have no idea whats safe and whats not.
I have been looking for load data for these components but i can find any for 00 buck. I'm wondering if i need a different wad or just stack rows of 2 for a total of 8.
Any help you guys can give would be great. Thanks JT

Hello JTKnives, the wads comes in different thickness of petals, you'll need wads with thinner petals like Win 12F114 with 0.020" thick petals, yellow in color or Fed 12C-1.clear with red band at the base. I just checked and found the Fed 12S-0, Fed 12S-3 & Fed 12S -4 and Win AA wads to have thicker petals.

What are your application purposes for JT, (hunting or defense)? Yes, it is safe to cut the petals for firing reasons related to pressure, but depending on the buckshot (maybe copper plated) and the bore (maybe an older fine vintage) you may want the wad petals on. In that case you could go to an 0 buck or #1 buck and use the petals. You could also use the two stack method also for 8 pellets. Patterns can be effected by an array of scenarios.

It is safe to cut the petals off flush with the floor of the shotcup and you should get a perfect fit.

9x00 should weigh about 490 grs, 1 1/8 ounce. 8x00 would run about 1 ounce, and you would pick load data for that weight, You would still use the WA12, but with the 2x4 stacking. You mayneed to use an over-shot card wad to get a good crimp on the 2x4 stack.

BTW, the "bumpy" loads are safe to fire as long as they will chamber.

For buckshot load data it is generally accepted that you can use buckshot by weight with the equivalent weight lead shot data. You may have to try different wads to get the correct fit.

You can quickly see why factory loads always contain certain combinations of buck. Hope this helps.

I load buck for 10 , 12 , 16 and 20 gauge guns .

I always want the shotcup attached if I can make it work and so far I have !

With the 12 gauge I use the Remington STS hull , Remington SP-12 wad and single 0 Buck . I can put three of those in a layer and 4 layers .

As a matter of fact I use Remington SP wads for each gauge mentioned with my buck loads .

It may be worth mentioning all I load is for older side by sides of which some are damascus . So as you may suspect they're not balls to the wall loads but rather what I would call medium loads .
