Is anyone using this boolit in a 1911? Looks like it could have potential. I am thinking of a six cavity but wanted some input before I sprung for the mold.

If the mold you are talking about is the 452-200-RF, I have cast up some and used them in my Glock 30, but I had to tweak things to make them work. The biggest gotcha for me was that the oglive of the round is large and I was force to seat the round at 1.130 in order for it to chamber properly. This is fairly deep compared to other boolits I load, and consequently, I had to adjust the powder charge down to adjust for the reduced case volume. It will work but you need to pay attention and be careful. I advise constructing a dummy round in order to verify proper chamber seating prior to loading your first live round.

The round is solid, accurate and nice to shoot, making nice round holes in paper.

I've bought the mold in order to use it in a 1911, looked like they might work for a tight chamber in my Briley barrel. Have cast about 400 up, but haven't loaded them yet or tried them. Did measure a couple and they drop pretty big, .458 or so, so wondering if the grease groove is deep enough to size them down to .452. and still have some grease left.

Have to seat them deep as mentioned. Mine feed fine in my throated M1911s with standard feed ramp. They do not feed reliably in my ramped Para14.

What type of accuracy are y'all getting. I usually load 452460's for 1911's but I really like the shape of that Lee boolit. Would be shot in a Sig 1911.

Thanks.

Accuracy was as good as anything I am capable of doing, though that may not be saying much. ;)

I shoot a 185 and 200 SWC in my 1911s with good accuracy and a lot of fun.

Excellent; as good as any other 185 - 200 gr cast. I load them over 5 gr Bullseye.....have for years.....it ain't broke, no need to fix.......

Thumbcocker,
Like you I really like the shape but found that the 452460, RCBS 45-201-SWC, H&G 68 were better performers accuracy and overall reliability wise. This was out of four 1911's with the standard feed ramp setup.
The one exception was I loaded some for a S&W 625 that I was working on. It was the best shooting bullet out of that particular gun
Good Luck, jmsj

I have to seat the 452-200-RF at 1.10 to work reliably in my 1911s, which is pretty deep. Watch your pressures, they go up quick with the reduced volume, depending on what powder you are using.

They seem to work fine in my Taurus PT145 but like some have said, I have to seat them a little deeper. My compact shoots them very well and accurately.
