Just had to share this with some folks that would appreciate it.
I found a guy at Tulsa that needed his Pedersoli Rolling Block less than
I did, and we arranged to trade some pieces of greenish paper for it.
I couldn't wait to try it, so shot what I had - my hunting load for my Marlin
GG SS (.45-70). 57.0 W748 under a Rem 405 j-type.
Twiddled the tang sight around until it was kinda near the middle of the
bull and shot the last three rounds I had brought with me as a group
at 100yds. Ylkes! they went into a 5/8" cloverleaf. Not too shabby for
iron sights and my old eyes and a gusty day. :-D
I also had 5 rounds of a commercial cast 500 RN (looks like 458125) over
13 gr of Unique that I had loaded to run through one of the trapdoors,
and they went into about 1.3" at 100, not bad for kinda mediocre bullet
quality to look at them.
I'm kinda pleased with the old girl, and wish I didn't have to spend this
weekend putting down the new bamboo floor in the great room.
I've still got to clean the bore, then slug it, and try out some of my RCBS
405 boolits over that 57.0 W748 - which shoots just like the Rem
J-bullet in my GGun.
She's a hansome one, too. I'll get a pic one of these days and share.
Big ole octagon barrel, nice wood, and I just LOVE the RB action.
