View Full Version : My new Big Bore 94

I was out of town for a meeting today and stopped in a gun shop I rarely visit. There was a Winchester 94 in 375 Win on the rack. The receiver and wood look great and the action is super smooth, but there were several ugly spots on the outside of the barrel and magazine tube. The bore looks good.

To cut to the chase, it went out the door with me for $380 total. :D If its even a halfway decent shooter I think I got a deal, especially when looking at the prices for them on Gunbroker.

Anybody want to recommend a good mold for this caliber?

Just got in a Lyman 375449 to get my BB out of retirement, been on backorder for awhile. Had several guys around here recommend it but I have yet to even degrease it. Looks like an awesome boolit but it's 2-3 projects down on my list.

good to see noe is making that.
I wanted to get it for my 375 super-mag when Michael had them and completely forgot about the mold.

Accurate Arms makes a wonderful mold for the .375 Win. 250 gr. GC and 310gr PB. I had a 2 cavity mold made with each bullet. 21 grs. SR4759 is magic with both bullets. They could be pushed faster but they shoot very well at this level. Love the Wn. 94 BB

Greetings
Have one also. This is a thumper supreme.
Up to 1500 fps you do not need a GC. But past that and up to massive hurt on both ends you will want a GC boolit. That Lyman 375449 is a good one. But any mold that will drop a 377- 379 is going to give you good duty. I have a 180 grainer I use in my 38 Long Ballard that makes a fun 900 fps "bunny" bouncer.
In the 235 boolit grain area it is a flat shooter. Personally I use 255 grainers and heavier as I seldom see anything past 60 yards in the river bottoms I hunt. RE7 and 4198 will work well. Probably any powder in that burn rate would.

I have messed with 2400 and aa-1680 quite a bit, i'm leaning towards the I-4198 and
aa-2230 speeds.

Hmmmm....that's one I neglected to buy before Michael shut things down, haven't found a RD design my rifles (& revolvers) don't like. This Lyman 375449 will probably work just fine, tho....how many did NOE have?

Gentlemen,

If you will allow me, I have that Ranch Dog bullet in my inventory.
I make them from Isotope lead, sized .379". Many have ordered it
and no one has complained yet.

Thanks, it seems we're all enablers here. ;-) I do recall an extra set of mould handles in my casting cabinet, seems such a waste.

It's a shame about the bluing on the barrel & mag tube, Elkins45. Very nice wood, tho. Order up some boolits from Jerry and see how she shoots.

little cold bluing and steel wool and that bluing might just look like new.

Nice condition otherwise - some pretty wood

You stole it! Those spots are nothing steel wool and cold blueing won't cure.

Boolets I have, it's dies and brass I have to track down. Since I'm not going to start out shooting at full power I can make brass from 30/30, but I'm going to wait for the Midway birthday discount (October birthday) to order dies and some other stuff.

If I get the chance tomorrow I'm going to try some steel wool and see how it cleans up.

I'm fortunate there, just had to dig some 20 yr old (unfired!) brass out from under the bench. Dies on the bottom of the pile but accessible. When my birthday rolled around in Feb Larry's cupboard was bare, hope you get what you want. I'm in the market for some brass as well, only have a little over 100 pieces and seem to recall some of it has had a hard life.

Hmmmm....located any .375 Win brass lately? I'm coming up empty, told Larry P to notify me when some came in. I can send you a handful to play with if need be, hate to see that gun idle if you're wanting to shoot it.
