That site is appreciated.
I miss my grandad, who served in the Navy on the USS Farquhar (DE-139), a Destroyer Escort on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He laughed at how slow the DE was compared to the Wake Island Carrier.
Postwar evaluation showed that his DE sank the U881 in 1944, the last American ship to sink a submarine in the North Atlantic. He never would talk about that, he did talk about rescuing downed airmen and the rescue of the USS Fiske sailors.
He also left me an Arisaka and an NCO sword from the surrender at Ponape.

Can somebody tell me about the troops with the khakis and some sort of cloth
helmets? Kind of like jump uniforms, so I am thinking paratroops, but never have
seen or heard of these cloth helmets for any kind of ground troops. Maybe tankers?
But they have padded helmets, not these thin cloth helmets.
Any info would be appreciated.
Bill
I believe that they are Paratroopers in the first issue "jump smocks" and the baggy pants that made them so recognizable. The cloth "helmets" were helmet liners for something that looked like a football helmet of the period.

I think a lot of the first pics are with WWI equipment, Stude trucks & tin can tanks. It is a parade march, many 03s in with the M1s. A P-40, knuckle head Harley, maybe a lot of reserve equipment? I think those are Para or glider infantry, from the type boots they have. Look at the crowds. Sure is different from today, in dress and quantity.

M3 Stuarts. Named after Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart. Was what we had to start WWII with. In the Philippines M3’s engaged in the first U.S. tank vs. tank battle against Jap light tanks of similar capabilities. As was common the Japs handed our guys there asses. Later the M3 Stuarts proved effective in jungle warfare. Were replaced with Medium tanks when they became available. Then we had Sherman’s with 90mm guns against Jap light tanks. Which was the type of hardware advantage we needed against the Japanese Army.
