I've came across a couple hundred pounds of pure lead pipe. I'll be melting it down into ingots soon but i've got a question.

Right now all i'm casting for is my 1911's in .45 ACP which I shoot at aprox 8-900 fps, and that's probably all i'll be casting for in the near future. How much pure lead should I mix in with my COWW's, percentage wise? 80% COWW's to 20% pure lead? or.....?

What would give me a good alloy?

Before I got this pure lead pipe i've been making good shootin' boolits out of pure COWW's with a little solder mixed in.

depends on how hard or soft you want your boolits

I'd try a small batch at 50/50 COWW to pure. Throw in 0.5% Tin if you have it.

See how that works for you and adjust accordingly. Just make sure your sizing them right and using a good quality lube. It will likely work fine in a .45 ACP.

I do 50/50 and then add 2% tin/pewter. 4gr Promo/Red Dot behind a 200gr SWC. Fun to shoot and easy on the pistol.

50/50 works very well for a lot of low/medium pistol and also rifle loads.

Once the wheel weights dried up at the local tire places, I found my sweet spot.
75% pure, 25% WW. I push mine kinda hard. No leading, no tumble, no powder residue. I also make my own lube.

add some soft and see how the mold responds keep going and measuring/shooting you'll find a spot where the mold pours pretty close to your size die, and where the gun still shoots well.
