I am looking for some load data for an upcoming big game hunt. I looked in the Lyman book #4, but did not see data for the powders that I have.

- My rifle is a Browning BLR in 30.06 with a 1 in 10 twist rate.

- For alloy, I have WW's that come in around 12 bhn air cooled, and at about 18 bhn water dropped.

- I also have some range scrap that comes in at 15 bhn air cooled, and at about 21 bhn water dropped.

- I will be adding tin up to 2% for best fill out.

- I'll be using my Lee C309-200-R mold for my boolits with gas checks made from aluminum or brass.

- The powders that I have to work with are IMR 3031, IMR 4064, & IMR 4350.

- I would like to see loads with a starting velocity of 1800 fps and continue on up from there, all while keeping these heavy boolits stable and accurate.

I appreciate any and all input.. Thanks

30 gr of IMR 3031 is a good place to start. :)

the same with 4064, both will shoot a bit better with a Dacron filler.
water dropping will help keep the accuracy and not mess with how the boolit acts on the animal too much.

A load that shoots well in my Springfield Sporter is 42 grains of 4064. From my 24 inch barrel a 311-299 moves out at 2250 fps and is adequately accurate for any hunting for which a cast boolit is appropriate.

Also good in the '06 with #311299 is either 28 grs. of 4198 or 30 grs. of RL7 for about 2000 fps. If you water-drop bullets you can increase these charges 4-5 grains for about 2250 fps.

35gr H4895 should get you a little more than 2,000fps with that boolit. I get about 1950 with a 245gr and 35gr of H4895.

I have done a little reading on Dacron filling in years past and they tell of excellent results, but I personally never used Dacron filler before. How much should I use to start with? How much does it increase or decrease as the powder charge increases?

adding a grain of Dacron is about like adding another grain of powder.
you want to make sure that the filler touches the powder and is slightly compressed by the boolit when you seat it.
it's better to add a bit too much than a bit too little, as it is a positioner to hold the powder in place.

Thanks for the responses.. I'll give them a try. I'm the type that likes to do my homework before diving in head first. All input greatly appreciated.
