What was the first repeater used by the US Government?
A Girandoni 20 shot repeating 46 caliber air rifle carried by the Voyage of Discovery, Lewis and Clark. It was pumped with a bellows and used to scare the bejesus out of the tribes along the way. Clarke's slave York had the task of pumping it up with a bellows pump.
It was lost to history for many centuries and believed to be recently found in the collection of Dr Beeman, traced thru the description of field expedient repairs made during the voyage, it is now in the NRA museum.
