Just what is the 43 Reformado? I see this some times when a rolling block is listed for sale.

Spain cartridge, adopted 1889. Straight-wall case, .446 jacketed bullet. The main part of the case and the rim was same as .43 Spanish (bottleneck type), only last part was wider. Old spanish rolling-block rifles were rechambered. In that times it was possible to fire older .43 Spanish cartridge in .43 Reformado rifles, cases just expand more. All this info sourced from G.Layman book.

do yourself a favor and obtain a "Remington" roller military chambered in 43 Spanish ... cousin to the 44-77 which was also a Remington chamber. these are fabulous in the fact that it be very "findable" in great condition ... and ... the bore/barrel in great condition. these shoot very well with the only "how-some-ever" being that they require either blackpowder to load to potential or the use of 5744 smokless in very lite amounts so as to not harm these fine ol rifles. mostly very accurate and historic in nature as the old buff hunters found the roller to be a second and bit cheaper rifle [ in military mode] to shoot at around 12 to 13 dollars in comparison to the sharps that started out at 30 dollars and up.

the 43 Spanish is a trip to have and load for and just hold for the historic value of "wonder where this one has been and done" .

Might be easier but I cannot afford 3.00 apiece for brass. On a fixed income and little at that.

Greetings
The main factor is to use a fat enough boolit. If you are going to use 2F BP then be sure to use a soft boolit. I use 40-1 in my 43 Spanish roller. I find in my rifle a caliber .442 is the minimal diameter and a .443 shoots better. With 5744 I use a .445.
If the rifle you are looking at has rifling all the way to the muzzle it will shoot well. If the rifling at the muzzle is wallowed out from cleaning you will need to shorten the barrel to good full size rifling. Easy job really. Well worth one hours work.
A 400 grainer bounding along at 1400 fps will harvest any animal on our side of this planet. Plus with a near 80 grain case capacity you can do some serious distance shooting.

Well,
Brass is going to be the problem. I know that 348s have been used to make-do with this and similar cartridges. If you're sure it's a Reformado then it all depends on the chamber specs. I just measured both a 348 case and a Reformado case and the 348 base is .025" larger. Also the rim thickness (headspace control)- from base of case to front datum on the rim- is .075' on the Reformado and .066" on the 348. Which indicates even if you could reform the 348 enough, the thinner rim could introduce addition headspace. There may be some "basic" type brass out there that can be reformed for a good fit but you'll have to pay for that also. Beyond that- who knows.

The reformado uses .454 diameter bullets and cases can be made by using 43 Spanish brass
but it is almost as much as proper brass

44-77 and even 44-90 works fine in my 43 spanish, i use the 44-90 for paper patch loads
