I just acquired a 1940/41 M99 (409xxx) in good shape, and I'm considering shooting 311291 170 gr. through it. I'd appreciate any thoughts around two things: 1) Should I size them at .311" and 2) OAL recommendations. Thank you.

First step; Slug your bore . That said, the 311291 is one fine cast boolit .

I wouldn't even bother slugging the bore. I would load a dummy round @.311" and see if it chambers. If it does load some and shoot it. If the lever closes hard or not at all take the bullets down to .310" and try that.

Lyman has a OAL for the 311291 as 2.358''make several dummy cases and see what works through the action/magazine.

In my 99 takedown 300 Savage the RCBS 308 165 SILH @ 2.577" OAL works as well as any.

I have never owned, or loaded for a .30 caliber rifle that would not work well with .311 cast bullets.
