After I got in and cleaned up from my morning elk hunt, my buddy Danny and I went back out after a dandy antelope buck I have been seeing.

This was a fairly simple hunt, I had this buck located in the morning. We got back into the area and I found the buck laying on a side hill about 1/2 mile away. I got Danny on him and after about 30 seconds of looking at him through binos he said "We are taking him home today"

We made a quick stalk and Danny laid down prone and used his pack for a rest. On the first shot at a little over 300 yards he hit him just a little to far back. The buck trotted a little bit and stopped I told Danny to hit him again the second shot was centered and should have planted this buck. The buck took off and I kept eyes on him. The buck slowed down and his legs turned to jello and he tipped over. After several minutes and several high fives we went to get our hands on this buck. When we got to about 75 yards he picked his head up and I told Danny he needed to hit him again. The 3rd shot put him down for the count.

By far the widest antelope buck I have ever seen.

From tip to tip he is 17" wide, about 15" tall, 6" cutters, 8" at the bases....he should score well. We haven't put a tape on him to get a score yet just rough numbers.

Danny is a taxidermist, he didn't want to ruin the hide so he opted to pack out 1/2 of the buck whole so he can cape it out properly.

I took the rear quarters and some of the gear from his pack, I also carried his rifle for about 3/4 of the trip. We were able to get loaded up and washed up just as a storm was coming in.

Oh and the rifle....7mm Ultra Mag shooting 175gr scirocco. This isn't the first antelope I have seen that doesn't want to give up after being hit hard.

Great buck! Nicely done! How are you planning to butcher it? Steaks, ground or sausage? Just courious

More than likely that one will become jerky and sausage. The vast majority of mine get deboned and I take most of it to the Butcher shop in town where they make Jalapeņo sausage as well as brats for me. The rest of it mainly the back straps and half of one of the rear quarters I make into jerky, maybe a steak or two.

We usually have elk for eating.

Call him the Antenna-Rabbit ears buck. Widest one in my experience as well.

WOW! I love hunting antelope even more than hunting elk, and the crazy looking freak horn bucks like that really get me going! That is a heck of a rifle, but you are right goats can take a heck of a beating, especially after the first shot. I have often said that if elk were as tough as antelope pound for pound, we'd need air support to hunt them. Congrats on an awesome elk and an awesome antelope, looks like you are having a good week!
I was out scouting last night, won't be too long now I can go after my two tags!

What a beauty! While I lived in Wyoming I never got to hunt antelope, too poor at the time, I think I need to go back and remedy that.

Nice job!

Great head! We tried making some breakfast patties of 1/2 antelope burger mixed with 1/2 pork sausage by weight. Talk about a great side with eggs and hash browns in the morning.Robert

Grats. I've been on over two dozen shooter Muley bucks and 5-6 shooter pronghorns so far while elk hunting this year. Too bad my whitetail tag opens Oc1 and Muley and Pronghorn not until Oct 15.............

He will look good mounted for sure.
