I was checking the new "outs" at a local pawn shop when lo and behold the was a Mauser complete with bayonet. I checked it out. A Persian Mauser with matching serial numbers (or rather symbols) that appeared to be new in the box. Asking price wasn't bad for a Mauser in that condition but as I'm a shooter rather than a collector I passed and told a friend whose son will probably buy it. They're still out there if you can stumble on them.

I had one of the carbines, a bit too hard on my ears so I got rid of it. Wish I'd just greased it up good and parked it in the closet, but I don't think I'd care to own another just the same.
Main thing besides the muzzle blast was that it weighed near as much as a full length rifle.
The barrel on mine was full diameter up to a few inches before it emerged from the hand guard. Instead of steps it came to a angled shoulder like a cartridge case shoulder.

Action was beautiful, with the standing lion with sword crest very deep and well defined.
