I was reading about the 444 and got started down an Internet rat hole. Started reading about 410 loads using 444 brass, then read about fire forming 303 brass for 410 loads.

I've got a decent pile of 303's. is fire forming those into 444s for real 444 loads realistic? How do you fire form those. They did not lock the bolt of my 410 break action, although a 444 case did. The 444 is apart and being restored right now so I can't check the 303 fit in that action.

Haven't tried the 444 brass for 410 loads, did look at fire forming 303 for 410 loads but in my gun they wouldn't chamber. Required the rim to be turn for both thickness and diameter.
Have fire formed 9.3x74R into 410 shells, plenty of room for 3/4oz loads being a full 3" long

A friend loaded some .444's into .410 shotshells, even loaded 25 w/ BP and another friend shot a round of skeet with them. Some retired guys will do anything for amusement!

405 Winchester will work also if you have the urge for a few more shot in the pattern. You may have to turn down the rim to fit your gun. thrim down from the top of the rim to avoid the chance of a protruding primer.

I did some 303s earlier this summer. 303s can be a pain in the butt to blow out. No matter. 6 gr. Red Dot worked for me. I >me chose to filled the rest of the shell space up with cream of wheat and sealed with paraffin wax. Not something everyone comments on or about the activity. But. I found annealing before hand helps. No more 303s for me. I want to try some 9.3X74r shells next time. 3" 410s they make out of them. Good luck with your 2-1/2 incher's.

Thanks guys. What I'm really looking to do is make 444 brass to shoot bullets with. I just happened to read that 303s and 444 worked for 410 so I figured 303 might work for 444s as well.

So 6gr of reddot behind what? A 30 cal pure lead bullet in the 444 rifle?

mattd: I guess I miss understood. What I commented on was the making of 410 brass shotgun shells from 303 rifle brass. As far as making 444 rifle brass from 303 British to shoot out of a 444.. That subject is best mentioned by someone else who knows more about it. Sorry about the miss understanding on my part.
