I have one if the MP 9mm 125 gr. molds that I thought I would try in 38 special for grins. I loaded them over some blue dot for about 1000 FPS. Good news is they were extremely accurate, gotta soften the alloy some though as they punched thru 6 water filed milk jugs and look like they can be reused. So I learned Range scrap is to hard for this one! On to round 2.

Dang. That's some penetration!

There is some serious potential with this combo as long as softening the alloy doesn't affect accuracy.

I think your thread title is mis-named......should read "It worked, just 'way too well and in a manner not intended". I've had similar unexpected and unintended results from some of my ballistic experimentation. Yessir!

On a side note I had loaded 50 of these just to test out the Blue Dot works ok bu is dirty advice I was given and I have to say I don't see any more residue than anything else I've used and the accuracy was great with very mild recoil.

I've tried Blue Dot from time to time in 357 Mag--10mm--9mm--and even 45 ACP. It works all right. One load no longer published in the Speer Manuals involved Blue Dot and Speer's 200 grain JHP "Flying Ashtrays", and the #11 Manual's recipe imparted 1100 FPS from a 5" barrel to those wide-mouthed redcoats. Not a +P loading, either. Well. allegedly.....it got discontinued for some reason.

I'm on a kick right now to see how many of pistol rounds I can make work acceptably with Blue Dot no real reason just bored I guess.

Reminds me of testing my new Beretta 92 when I digressed from a real gun along with all the other peace officers back in the late 90's. I put a pop can on top of one of the range posts and shot it. Nothing happened. This was a 115 gr fmj getting kicked in the rear by a healthy dollop of Blue Dot. I shot and shot and shot. Couldn't believe I was missing that bad. 15 rounds. (I know what you're thinking punk, did I fire 15 or only 14. Well do ya feel lucky today?) Then I went forward and examined the can, it was plum full of holes. Still just sitting there on top of the range standard post.

Yup just zipped right thru Hadley any movement at all on the jugs, on the plus side the HP didn't clog up in the denim!

Blue dot works but I find it extremely dirty!

I'm using the Alliant version of this powder and I am not finding it any dirtier than anything else it is flashy though!

I love your thread title! I've been learning what "didn't work" my whole life. I remember when I found out floating a Honda trike across the pond didn't work......at least I made it out to the deep part! But I found out if the floatation tires all have equal air pressure it will go the whole way.

Blue dot is dirtier than some, but not as dirty as Unique. I have always wondered what difference it makes if a powder leaves a little residue? You are going to clean the gun after shooting it aren't you?

I have had good results with Blue Dot in .40 S&W and in .357 and .45acp. I started experimenting with Blue Dot when I ran out of my favorite and it has proved to be very versatile.

So far I have a great WFN solid load in 357 and 10mm with it but now I'm working on HPs so thought I'd start with the slowest one 1st.
