I recently traded for a new Henry .44 Big Boy and I have got to say that I am impressed with the way this gun shoots. Right out of the box I shot a few Speer Gold Dot 270 gr factory loads and with open sights kept them in 2"-4" 3 shot groups at 50 yards. I then ordered and installed a Skinner Black Gold express sight, looks great BTW, and my groups shrank to half that with the largest being 2". However with some handloads of 240 XTP's over some Lilgun I shot 1 group of 5/8". Boy I was all smiles:razz: when I walked up and saw the target. I have since loaded a few more and will try and see if it still shoots that good or if it was just a fluke. Hopefully I will get to try it out on a deer this fall. Down the road I also intend to cast for it and am thinking about picking up a .44 handgun as a companion. Kinda like the Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter.

Randy great gun I have the 45 LC same sight what I found works really well are 310 grain WFN over good dose of H110 with mag primer 1600 FPS just shoots so well. That Henry is one of my favorites. I am seriously considering bringing this rifle with me for heavy cover elk the load I just posted will do the job 100 yards and under.

Congrats on a great gun.

Beautiful gun, I was on the verge of buying one when the gunsmith talked me out of it. He said go with the Uberti 1866 because they are much better quality. Claimed the Henry's internal parts were cheaply made out of poor quality metals. Hadn't heard that before but I believed him and wanted a side loading gate anyway so I went with the 1866.

I like it but the toggle link action always has me paranoid about my +P loads for my Ruger Blackhawk. If I came across a good deal on the Henry there's a good chance I would add it to my collection. Not sure my gunsmith was right about the cheaply made parts, never heard any such complaints from owners of these beautiful rifles. Plus they are American made which is a big plus in my book.

I got one Saturday at the Albany R&P club show. Cost me a S&W 29-2 and $50. Have not had the chance to take it out yet. Anticipation don't you know.
