BP revolvers take different size caps, no real standard that I can find.
Best way to cure that would to convert all nipples to one size
as say offered by Track of The Wolf, but at $5 per nipple that
gets expensive.
Do any of you all have sources for percussion caps ? I know there is a shortage right now.

One solution would be to buy #11 caps and pinch them to fit a #10 nipple. What are they currently selling for, when you can find them?

Do the pinch thing now. Some of my guns use 10s some use 11s,
hard to find either type right now.

can't find percussion caps - #10 or #11 - around Denver. A friend of mine spotted me half a tin for the upcoming muzzleloading season this coming weekend. I thought I had plenty and got that sinking "uh-oh" feeling the other day when I dug around the cabinet and found empty tins.

Ya that's the problem I have a standing back order at Bass for $7.99
for Remington that includes hazmat.

Didn't know Track of the Wolf sold caps ? How do they list them ?

FWIW several of my #11 nipples will take a #10 cap. So I don't turn down #10 caps when I see them. YMMV.

Caps are always a problem, seems to be no size standards. I interchange Rem 10 and 11 caps.
Today I only use Rem or CCI caps.
I had some foreign caps and I won at a shoot and some RWS I bought. Both shattered on the nipples and I had pieces of cap stuck in my chin and nose. The metal is brittle.
Nipples are a pain, some foreign ones have large holes and will cock the hammer and shoot nipple pieces back as fast as the ball exits the muzzle.
I learned long ago to use good nipples and caps.

Pinching caps can cause chainfiring.

Not really. Chain fire is always from the rear in a revolver and the biggest cause are nipple holes too large so a lot of hot gas escapes to enter under another cap. Then some guns have cylinder movement and can impact a primer on the recoil plate.
If a cap is not fully seated it can fire on the plate. Very tight caps are worse because they won't go on all the way. Same as a proud primer or rifle primers in place of LP.

I don't know if that is true. The only time I ever had a chain fire was when I would not grease the chamber mouths, or put inert filler under the ball.

Fire can't get past a tight ball or boolit, no way, no how. It comes from the back.
All I have seen are with the cylinder in front of the ball filled with grease. One used a wad under the ball. Seen many but strange, no damage at all to the guns. just a lead smear.
The one I had was an 1860 Colt with Crisco on the balls. We shot boolits from the Remingtons with no grease in front. The cambers are so close the boolit noses were ruined from gap blast. Balls work better.
I have to think it is a bang fire at the recoil plate. Too many thousands of cap and ball rounds.

On your list of places to look, add natchezss.com and wideners.com
They often get stock quicker than other places, and I was able to get a box of wing cap for the enfield during the last year.

Never had chainfire with proper fitting caps, have had it with pinched caps.
I gave up top grease and the mess years ago, always use lubed felt wads and
the difference is just amazing. More accurate and very little mess on the
gun.

Been pinching looser caps for years. Notice the ridges on Rem caps so even one that fits has a space.
Where would the flame come from to go in there? Poor nipples or slam fires. I don't buy pinching primers does it.
