I was looking to pick up some Large pistol primers and noticed that widener is out of my normal favorite and low on about every other brand except wolf that they seem to have an abundance of. Has anyone tried the wolf primers? How consistent do they seem to be and how do they stack up to other brands?

I have this same post in the reloading section of www.subguns.com (the greatest machine gun board in the world) and no one has replied with their experience. Powder Valley has them at $90/5k. I wanted to get some 30k of primers but I won't unless I have some info on them.

I was looking at wideners $87 for 5K and I don't have to pay shipping and hazmat (just sales tax). I'm tempted to buy 1k of each type I use and give em a shot but like you didn't want to pull the trigger on 5k and find out they aren't good.

I do recall seeing good reports about PMC primers.

I have been using Wolg Large Pistol primers in my 38-50REM, 56gr FFF Goex, so far they seem to work as well as F150 LP.

Would prefer Federal 150, but they are not readily available from my normal source.

I'm looking for some LP primers for cowboy action shooting. Not concerned about accuracy, but they've got to go through my Dillon SDB's easier than CCI, which are too hard. I'm about running out of Fed 150's. Anyone use then in a SDB?

Another concern, is that they're soft enugh to not give ignition problems with light mainsprings on tricked out guns.

I don't know about Wolf but I took a chance on Mag-tech only 18.00 per 1000. In both large and small pistol. I put 500 through my 40s&w, and 500 through my 45acp all worked fine. I used to use CCI religously but They went up to 26.00 per 1000 in My area, so I took a chance on the cheap and it payed off. I say try 1000 and see.

No personal experience yet but talked to a guy from Miwall at the local gun show last month and he said they'd used a half million of them in their commercial reloads with very good luck. He commented they had fewer primer misfeeds in their automatic machines with the Wolfs than with the previous brands they'd tried.

I picked up 10K to try, but haven't worked my way down to them yet. BTW, they were $65/5K here last month at the show.

If they turn out to be the same as PMC I would like to know. The local gunshop had Russian made PMC primers for $14.95 for 1000. I bought a carton and they turned out to be as good as anything else I have used. Two weeks later a flyer came in from the same shop, they were on sale for $18.95 a carton.

I bought 1000 Wolf large pistol primers to try in my S&W 610 revolver. Compared them to Federal 150's and they worked fine. They do say on the package" made in Russia".

Morgan, the shop was Duncan's in N. Wilkesboro. I live about 20 miles south in Alexander Co.
I was going to buy more even at the higher price but they had sold out and said there wouldn't be any more.

I havn't used them but I did try Magtechs with good results. I'm happy to see some competition for the big three, maybe it will bring prices back to a more realistic level.

glad you asked I have the same question -- have a tuned Redhawk - and when it is cold-- I will get misfires -- so I would like to find a soft primers substitue.. ok

They are the same primer as the Russians that the Palma and long range shooters coveted. I bought a sleeve from Powder Valley and got just a slight SD advantage over my normal Winchesters. They seem to be a little larger making for a tight fit which is real good when you are pushing the edge for Palma loads and the pocket gets a little bigger.
I haven't tried the pistol primers yet, so I can't comment.
