Federated Socket Material - about a 5# bar
Just bought a "Federated Socket Material" - about a 5# bar.
I have not even scratched yet. But it is lead (and what else?).
Cast bar with "Federated Socket Material" in raised letters. I bought it for $3, so cannot be hurt too much.
I do have a Cabine Tree Lead Tester - but that is for when i get home.
I was kind of hoping for some higher tin count.....

A Picture for today.
And if don't procrastinate tonight, maybe the Lead Hardness..
I was hoping someone would recongize the 'socket material' - I have never seen plumbing lead blocks - so nothing for me to compare to.
Hopefully it is some type of 'babbit' material and has a lot of tin....

Hey Gunor, No idea on the mystery metal, but I'd like to see the mold for that gun! Good luck!

122 mm D-30 Howitzer - my favorite picture....Soviets....they left a few.... for me to play with in Afghanistan. Pretty cool gun.
I thought I show the picture, since I wasn't getting any response on my mystery metal.....

No problem. If you want to get rid of them so you don't contaminate your lead with what seems likely to be zinc, I hear the's a guy on this forum (shadygrady, I think), who trades lead for zinc, cuz he casts the zinc into cannonballs for his cannon or some such.
