I want to buy some cast bullets for my Buffalo Classic. I will cast my own once my home is rebuilt.

I'd like to know if H & R is consistent in the size of their 45-70 bores. The BullShop in Alaska says at his website that he'll build 'em anyway you want 'em. I just want to make sure I buy the correct size.

No I haven't but it would be inconsistent to believe that one would be the same as another. Get some egg sinkers, lube lightly and give it a try. Gianni

If you're going to use cast bullets, just go with 0.459" - 0.460" and your BC will thank you with good accuracy. Mine slugs at 0.4575" but, as noted above, there is a range of values within the factory specs. But they all like their bullets just a tad oversized.

My experiment here:

Now what ever dimensioning your BC barrel might have, and they seem to be all over, I’ll bet it will shoot well with fat boolits; mine does chamber .461” boolits and shoots them well although it’s pretty skinny in barrel dimensioning. Might suggest you to order them .460” at first and start experimenting from there… Good luck.

that is not allways the case mine slugs at the breech at .457and at the muzzel it is .452 it loves bullets from .457 to .459 but the .459 tend to lead up the muzzel end of the barrel but if i use .457 or .458 i have no leading and very good accuracy, every gun is a law unto its self what works in one will sometimes not work in an outher.

Duely noted; anything can happen, I reckon. I'd send that barrel back to H&R, windwalker. Never heard of such for a .45-70 barrel. But I reckon, if one lives long enough...... lol oh well....

Mine will chamber one .459 but not .460 has very little throat if any, but I have never had any lead, slug the throat and the muzzle as this is the only way you will find the right boolit.
The Lyman 457191 PB 300g works with 60g WC872/WC860 quite well at 1450/1500 FPS, the LEE 458-405-HB with moderatly soft lead works equaly as well with the same powder cut back 57g this powder need a little compresion. Sr4759 in the prescribed amt in the Lyman cast bullet load book works as well also. Some of the pistol powders work well like Unique, 231, AA#7, or 2400 quite mild loads and accurate.
Load out as far as you can chamber the boolit, but if it is like mine that will not be very much, you can try what you want but I do not size my brass after the first firing just use a RCBS universal de-capping die prime and seat the boolit and crimp.
Hope this helps and the BC is a accurate gun.
