View Full Version : I need 30 cal mold that would be great for a 300 black out?

Right now I have the 309-150 lee mold. It's a shorter bullet with a blunt tip on it, and right now I'm not too happy with the bullet. After I cast and then measure the bullet it's coming out to .313 therefore it will not chamber in the Ar15 300 blackout. I know I'm going to need to buy a resizing die , and size it to .309. Also being that the OAL of this bullet is much shorter than the standard fmj ballistic tips I've been using in the gun, I'm going to see some feeding problems due to there being so much slack in the magazine. Are there any ways to correct that problem, and also what kind of luck are you having with other sized molds/models , and the issue of these bullets not filling the mag properly

Only mag that works for me is the mapul pmag 30's. Not even 20's work.
I get full mags with the lee 155gr SKS boolit sized to .309

I also have been using the Lee 155 grain and seating them to the crimp on the bullet, they are short but run through all my metal mags without a problem.

I like LEE's 160gr TL .309 bullet (like the 155 but with the Lee Tumblelube grooves instead.

My preferred boolit is Lyman's 311359 which with my alloy drops at 120gr and is a short spitzer that fits nicely within the AR magazines. You didn't mention if you preferred the sub-sonic or supersonic loads but with either mold, it should work just fine.

I size the Lee 312-155-2r to .310, lubed with (Randy Rat's) Tac 1 lube with gator gas checks. My first batch were lubed with Blue Angel because I was visiting my dad and that was in his Lyman. I also dipped them in 45-45-10 to be safe, because it was freezing and I wasn't sure if Blue Angel would work that cold. The extra dip lube didn't seem to be necessary after testing. I use lil gun behind mine.

I want one of the Heavy Metal molds now.

I prefer Pmag 20's. I haven't tried 30 rounders loaded to capacity because I just haven't got much past the testing phase so I never had many of any one load loaded.

Edit: I'd been confusing Hi-Tek and Tac #1. I'm not sure how. Tac #1 is like Speed Green, but smells better.

I size them in a .311 die and lube with Lyman's Super Moly. Seat to the crimp groove and you are good to go. Never had any feeding or leading problems and shoots as accurately as anything I have run through it.

The Lee C312-155 is a darn good bullet to have for pretty much any .30 caliber out there, highly recommended.

I've been running these:

http://wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=100001100&dir=625|1056|1482

I've had ZERO issues with them. I've shot Sierra 220 MK's with ZERO problems. I'm running the NOE 311247 mold bullets as we speak and I've shot over a 1000 of them, again, ZERO problems.

Only problem I got with the magazine is the price, and I got over that 1000+ rounds ago.

Excellent input guys ! I appreciate this great info . I'm getting all this wrote down for sure. What do y'all think about sizing down to .309? Reason I ask is that I have the sizer on the way.
Thanks again

I have shot thousands of the Lee 155 sized at .311 with really good accuracy (try 17 grains of Reloader 7, great load). I recently got a new hp mold and was having trouble getting the rounds to chamber. The bore riding portion of the nose was sticking in the barrel. I slugged the bore and was surprised to find the groove diameter to be .307. I am going to order a .309 sizer die and see if that will help. Have you slugged your barrel? The .309 might be perfect, I usually try to go .002 over groove diameter

I size mine to 309 with a gas check on them, also using reloader 7, and they shoot great.

312-160 - sized down to .309" and powder coat afterwards. No lube necessary, no gas checks either.
