Got a chance to buy 16lbs of H2400 at a goood price, but is it the best choice for heavy 45 colt loads?
I'm setting up for 300+ cast and have some H110 on hand. Is 2400 dirty, temp sensitive... The charts say it burns a little quicker so...yall help me out real quick so I can call this guy. I might buy it and see if I can sell it.

2400 would be excellent. It isn't going to give the highest velocities but will allow more range of velocities than H110.
I can't think of a more useful powder than 2400 for heavy loads in 45 Colt unless you want the top end loads exclusively.

Personally I prefer H110 over 2400. BUT, it is a good magnum powder, just not my 1st choice. Buy it, depending price.

You will need a good chronograph to find any velocity difference in top end loads between 2400 and 110/296. In practical terms, 2400 will get you all the velocity you can use in a 45 Colt up to and past the point most people want to tolerate recoil. 2400 can also do any other cartridge from 38 up. it can be used for milder loads than just top end. It also does good in 30/30.

If the price is at all in the ball-park, buy it.

Pour 18-18.5 grains of 2400 in those cases, and seat any 45 boolit, weighing between 250-320 grains and you've got a winner.

2400 is also an excellent powder for cast bullets in most rifle cartridges. It excels in that realm for loads in the 1700 fps range. Accuracy is usually stellar.

For the 45 Colt, I found 2400 to be the best for heavy loads. Good deal on the price.

Good find, I wanted to try 2400 but can't find any. I am trying Accurate #7 and and #9. Both at $35 a pound...

Ooooohhhhh. Good score! You know, 2400 is good in .45 Colt for medium and heavy loads. I've just recently started using it for reduced-power loads, which seem to be wonderful with 250 gr. boolits and 14.5 to 15.5 gr. Naturally, heavier loads too, but for some reason, I am really liking the mid-range loads with this powder. Accurate and relatively low recoil.
Cheers!
