81186New to this forum and looking to learn. I have this interesting 45ACP which is cast. Can anyone identify it?

Almost certainly it was swaged, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to cast, would need a multipart
mold. Never saw one in boolit casting, no way it was cast.

It's not a boolit, rather it's a multi-diameter Torx bit, made of lead to prevent over-tightening.

Actually, you can cast those. I made a 6 finned cylindrical pushout mould for a 12 ga. slug. The fins were made by slotting a piece of round bar then machining a cone into it so I had a finned tear drop shape:

This is from a nose pour mould with an ejector pin in the bottom.

Having said that, I suspect those .45's are either die cast or swaged, and certainly not cast in a standard two piece mould ~ they would not release.

Dang it, Longbow! that is impressive work. I know you CAN cast stuff like that, but
it is not easy to make a mold and it needs multiple pieces, lots of complexity.

I'm impressed that you can do it.
