Hey guys, I'm new around here and trying to learn so please be kind. I tried the search function and came up empty. I want to start reloading, and specifically for the 500. I know there are quite a few guys on here with them, and was looking for a recommendation for a press. I have been looking at turrets but am not opposed to a single stage. The Redding T-7 looks like the king when it comes to turret but I noticed the RCBS and Lyman did not look to bad. As far as a single stage the Rock Chucker looked like it would work. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Any quality press will work to reload 500 s&w. it's a straight wall case which is easy to resize.

I load them easily on any press I own.

I like the T-7 also but I have an Ultramag and thought long and hard about the T-7.

Take care

Any press would work, but if you want to save a little money over the T-7 look at the Lee Classic turret. Very good press with a lot of people on here owning one. Just buy the 4 hole turret though.

I personally would consider anything other than a Lee Classic turret.
Are you gonna load cast ?

The plan is to load cast in the 500, 44, and 357. I don't have casting equipment but my friend is going to be doing the casting, until I can get the money together for casting equipment. I was trying to stay away from a Lee Classic because I wanted to run a seperate seat and crimp die on the 500 and needed a fifth station.

What I have done when wanting an extra station is to size and decap on a single stage press and finish the other stages on the Lee.
Does your buddy have a 50 cal mold ?

you can use basically any press you want, i reload my 500 mag with a lee hand press as well as the cheap lee C press. neither have broken and i think they are the cheapest presses made period!

i will get a turret once i find the space to use it, but my cheap presses work just fine.

if your interested there is a group buy for a 350 gr boolit in the group buy section as well 69daytona started a thread in the discussions section for a rerun of the 700 gr bullet.

i load as light as 275gr up to the 600 gr bullets (700 once i get a mold) and use 7 or 8 types of gun powder.

I have a Lee C press maybe I will just use that for now. I had never thought of using it for the sizing and then the 4 station for the rest (kind of feel stupid for that). My friend has a 440 mold, but I am going to get in on the 700 group buy. I plan on casting in the future so if there is a mold available I should just go ahead and get in on it while I can. I plan on mostly shooting Trail Boss with the 440s for plinking.

The Lee 440 with Trail Boss makes a very enjoyable load for the 500, it like shooting 38spls.

I routinely decap and size and then clean. This adds a step or two between the actions. I will usually drop the cases in a citric acid solution and then in walnut media. Now my cases are ready to load. I frequently use two of the three stations on my Brown Bair - one to expand, one to seat. When I crimp I use all three.

What's wrong with the press you have? Lubed pistol cases resize easy.

Lyman spar-t 6 station turret press. Nuff said.

I have a Lee C-Press right now. I was always under the impression that it was a hunk of junk, but y'all have me thinking it's worth a shot. I am planning on purchasing a Dillon 650 in the next few months to do batch work for the stuff I shoot a lot. I will be dropping off buckets at the tire shops tomorrow, hopefully get some wheel weights in the next few weeks.

Big Block - good luck with the bucket thing. If I happen to get any wheel weights from a tire place, most are NOT lead.

Do you have your dies yet?

No dies yet. Have a Hornady 4 dies set on back order. I'm hoping the wheel weight thing will pay off but we will see. I think I am going to order some cast boolits to get me by till I can build up a lead supply. Does anyone know of a reputable caster that's not back ordered for months.
