I picked up a lee 452-300-RF gas checked mold. My plan is to use the boolits in my savage smokeless muzzle loader at around 2000 FPS They will be in a sabot so leading and lube should'nt be a factor. I'm not going to gas check them as they are in a sabot. What lead mix would work well for them to mushroom some but not break apart. If they shoot well, I'll be using them for deer, possibly bear and target shooting. I have wheel wieght lead and a lot of 50/50 and 63/37 solder to use Thanks.

Given you are using a sabot, the WW alloy should do well at that velocity. I have shot that boolit cast from WW at 1500 fps from a 45 Colt 20" carbine with great results. I didnt use a gas check, i used corn meal as a filler. lubed with BAC, i had zero leading. I also shot some from my Vaquero 45 Colt which was stout at about 1250 fps. Some would suggest water dropping your boolits but with a sabot that shouldn't be necessary.

Do you thing expansion would be about right for deer at that speed with WW?

Cornmeal behind the boolit...that's BRILLIANT. Kill and bread em at the same time!!! You can just drop the critter straight into the fryer. :awesome:

A 300 grain flat nose bullet @2000 fps.? I'm not a big time hunter, but I think every shot on a deer would be a through and through, with no expansion (and none needed). Might even do the same on a black bear.

I paper patch and air cooled WWs will expand at that velocity. For what you are doing, I believe straight lead with about 2% tin added would make a near perfect hunting bullet. I use that mix at near 2200 in my 45-70.

I'll be doing the same thing with the same boolit only over 100 grns of 777
