A few weeks back did my first post looking to find a load for a $95 dollar 7.62x54R, who had a bore of .314. I had shot some jacketed .310’s I got my hands on but was not impressed with anything but the rifles feel. It was fun to shoot and fit me right. Only 40 inches long and with sling, an easy carry with no worries about dings to it. Anyhow purchased .314 sizer and Lyman mold that throws about 200 gr. of lead. Found I didn’t have the load data to make it go. You guys came to my rescue , load for which I had powder was suggested. Started low and made two of each till I got up there where I then, made four of each. The sweet spot was 30 of 3031, Thirty one grains was to much , flyers. Was then suggested I try 29.8 with a dab of filler. Well I’m ready with 23 ready to go. Unfortunatey I got a trip to DC coming up so it will be a bit before I try them . This is all top draw stuff for me. Raking the range lead, processing it, molding the bullet. The lube I made years ago out of candle wax and STP . Why change a good thing.
Anyhow really just wanted a chance to try posting pictures. Tell me is it wrong to sit next to a guy with a thousand dollar plus gun and out shoot him?.

No, it's not wrong! And if you do it with cast boolits it becomes even better!

Congrats on finding a load your rifle likes.

I have the M44 carbine with the bayonet folded to the right side. I agree with you, it is rugged and easy to carry. Bought mine in the late 80's for $79. After years of trial and error (.312 dia. 155gr., 160 gr., 185 gr. cast boolits, Serbian surplus, Czech surplus, Russian surplus...) I bought the Lyman 314299 and bingo. Fifty yard, three shots, two 1/4" apart, the third 1/2" from the pair. I think I will laminate the target. Used half the charge you did with ACC 5744, from the Lyman Cast Bullet handbook (4th Ed.). Congratulations, I know exactly how you feel. I am now going to try the same boolit and loads in a 91/30 (Also tried N133 and 2400).
