Well, that one's done.

Time to put away the rods and tackle box and check the scopes on a few rifles. I got six weeks to finish my research on some subsonic loads for my H&R 'coon rifle, pick the best load and get it dialed in.

Gotta' check my vest to make sure everything's in it, put fresh batteries in all the lights and get my license. 'Most time to go huntin'! :D

OH, NO!
That's the same guy that got Raymond last year!

I used to love hunting in Virginia, I hunted in Rockbridge county a lot.

Come hunting season one year, I winged this silly parody of that night before Christmas poem and put it on the answering machine. I couldn't believe people were calling it just to get a laugh but oh well.. It went something like this:

"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
All the creatures were hiding, including the mouse.
They scurried to and fro as he stumbled around in the dark,
cursing that hunting weren't no walk in the park.

Blaze orange and rifles, shells and supplies,
All loaded into the truck, ready for the ride.
Take care and shoot well the sleepy wife moaned,
But the creatures didn't rest, 'til that sonofa**tch was gone."

Pish. This is Raymond. H&R 223, 1:9 twist, Lyman 225415, Graphlox and 2.6 grains of Red Dot. I sent him to the Promised Land with one shot right between the headlights.

Yea, but did Raymond's eyes glow like his buddies???? Good shooting either way!! I enjoyed your post detailing your load development for the 223 and figure to try that boolit in a 1-12 twist Rem 700 pretty quick. I figure 10 gr of 5744 ought to be a good starting point. Glad to see ya left the purple britches at home for the hunt, purple is a known zombie racoon attractant!!!

You are not wearing your New Zealand approved hunting gear.

That's 'cause I was in Floyd, not Christchurch! I guess you wouldn't know it, bein' from New York, but there's a state statute that forbids the wearing of clothing specifically designed for overseas countries in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

That's a Class III felony, man. You gotta stay on top of this stuff!

So good to see you back in form Jim. Missed you buddy.
BTW, the Pellet gun is still a shooter and stays at the back door for those unannounced intruders.

I don't see any cow skull there. All I see is a skull from a racoon/mammoth hybrid that I heard was known to roam certain areas of sparsley populated ranges.

My wife's boss, who happens to be my boss' father, has a few hundred acres in Floyd that I have never taken up the invitation to hunt. I'm too cheap to buy a license so I have to keep it on my own 40 acres. Though I like ygat you folks get an extra 2 weeks for firearms deer season.
