My son has a 3" Remington 1100 that we would like to try some light loads in. I slipped on different barrel chambered for 2 3/4" with two gas bleed holes on the bottom of the barrel. Before I start cranking out loads that don't cycle the action l'm going to run it up the pole here. Has anyone here loaded 1 oz loads that got the Magnum receiver to cycle with light loads? I have the gas rings nice, clean and slick with a new oring. Kind of thinking 700X or Red dot powder. Anyone been here ahead of me?

No problem with 2 3/4 dr equivalent 1 oz loads and recoil very light out of 1100. BTW, make sure the gas action is clean and DRY, not oily like a blowback action like an A-5

By changing to a 2 3/4" barrel you now have a 2 3/4 " gun and it will shoot LIGHT loads i.e. 7/8oz.

You may try some Green Dot it works good for light loads

I have two 1100s one is a 3” I have also put a 2 3/4" barrel on mine. The 3" magnum has stronger springs and will not cycle some light target loads that the regular 1100 will. I have not loaded for either, but I would think you would need one of the higher velocity loads.

We just did that switch of a 2-3/4" barrel onto a 3" magnum gun and it cycles the Federal 3/1-1/8target loads just fine. There is alot of confusion going on about putting a 3" barrel on the "non-magnum" gun but you can as long as you use steel shot-according to Remington folks. I guess some of the 3" turkey loads might slam the bolt back a little hard. I've heard of guys saying they did but is not recommended. I've used steel in mine and never a problem. The 3" magnum single port barrel I have will only cycle 3-3/4 dram equivalent, ounce and a quarter loads at the lightest.
