Just acquired a very pretty rifle this week. I have a bucket of RCBS 150 grain gas check bullets I will be using. Hope to post a range report within a week. Here is the Factory Information:

Serial number 174878 applied on February 24, 1903

Type: Rifle
Caliber: 30
Barrel Type: Round
Trigger: Plain
1/2 Magazine
Takedown
Received in warehouse on March 30, 1903
Shipped from warehouse on March 31, 1903, Order Number 182256

Here is a photo, but the photo does not do it justice. In real life, the blueing is much darker than the photo shows.

Here's another photo that shows the blue better:

Good looking rifle, and I'll bet it will shoot just as well as it looks.

Kirk,
Congrats on a great acquisition. That is a BEAUTIFUL Winchester; and a takedown to-boot. Not only do I like the tang sights, but I need them now.

Very anxious to see your range report.

A true thing of beauty. Built when men were men and guns were guns but would it not be better if it had a black plastic stock. think of the added stability in bad weather.:kidding:

She is great looking. I think the half mags with the takedown and crescent buttplate are the sharpest looking ones they made.

Sorry but that rifle is no good-there's a hole in the barrel. Better let me take it off your hands so you won't be disappointed.:kidding:

Boy that is a beauty, congratulations.

Congrats on another fine rifle! You aren't just teasing about a range report, are you? Certainly looking forward to it, especially if you put in more pics. Thanks for sharing.

You just got to love them take-downs. Don't see many around anymore. But occasionally some lucky fellow posts a picture of his every now and then. Always a pleasure to see one. Appreciate those photo's on this end Sir.

Wow, when you have one like that you don't need the others! I refuse to envy but that is nice!

Having seen some of your other rifles this one is a little lacking so if you are embarrassed by it I will help you out here...

Uh No...

Well I tried, it's another good looking rifle and should be a shooter.

YOU LUCKY DOG! :holysheep. That is one really cool gun! Wood is great, without being too great so you wouldn't use it.

Did you get a case with it? A nice takedown case would be a good place to store it when not in use.

So would my gun safe!

Randy, it was shipped in a full length hard case. I have thought about a shorter Pelican case, though. Glad you fellows enjoyed the photos.

They really don't make 'em like that anymore.

Nice rifle, cherish it.

Planning to run a test load through it today. I'd do more loads, but I need to anneal my brass ..... they are starting to split at the mouths when slightly (and I mean slightly) flaring them to seat the bullet.

Howdy Kirk,
Wow! You sure found a beautiful vintage piece of Winchester history.
If you ever get down this way again, I'll give you some
.30 W.C.F. head stamped brass .... the kind that matches the rifle's inscription and
was first used in that '94.......

w30wcf, that sure is tempting! My sister-in-law and family is moving to Ohio, so I'll plan to do that.
