Anyone ever used these? "has someone out there has used these, or perhaps planning on using these or perhaps has not seen these and would like to use these and willing to tell what they think." I know they are pretty darn pricey. Just putting it out there.

$11.50 for 25. Ouch.

We covered a similar subject in GREAT depth and detail some time ago.
There are cheaper alternatives.

The cheap way to go is to use polymer plugs that the ski industry uses for plugging holes in skis.

A few guys have also used AirSoft balls as polymer plugs for some of the larger calibers.

Yes I know that Duke.... Thank you!?!?!? What I am wondering, (see post #1) is if someone out there has used these, or perhaps planning on using these or perhaps has not seen these and would like to use these and willing to tell what they think.

Dave corbin sells a similar one only much cheaper ....only you have to buy his dies to swage the bullet to fit the tip..these bullets look like they are already ready for it....only my 10c worth

It will be interesting to hear from someone (like Donald Trump!) who's tried them. I seriously doubt that there will be many takers, based on the price they're charging! They're 0.46 each!

See the bullet their designed for? $1 pc. for .223. WOW!

personally not interested. IMO the .224 bullet is not ideal at its best for Very long range. I dont see the advantage. Then at the price? No thanks.

A novelty that is being tried on the market. Will fade into history along with a lot of other rehashed ideas. Bet they won't last 2 years in the market place.

There are, indeed, a few swagers here who have used the ski industry polymer tips, and also the airsoft type balls, swaged into polymer tips.

My impression at the time that the previous threads were discussed was that is was somewhat of a big waste of time and energy. As my previous post, with the change in BC, the real difference was out at 200+ yards.

So, for pistol rounds, normally fired at distances much less than 200 yards, not worth the bother (even if someone gave them to you free). For rifle rounds, at distances past 200 yards (which is more bench rest or Type F shooting) OK, give it a try, and see if it makes a difference for you. I found that there were other things I could do to my gun, and things I could do to the accuracy of the mechanical aspects of reloading the rounds, other than making a polymer nose, that made much more of a difference to my shooting accuracy out to 200 yards. MY normal shooting is 200 yards of less, and I don't get all wound up over group size. I shoot to train tactically, and any hits I can make on a bottle target at distances from 3 yards (pistol) out to 200 yards (rifle) is a happy event for me.

I think, however, that it's very notable that Hornady and others have created quite a sales splash over polymer tipped bullets. I understand that the Hornady FTX bullets sell very well. Where they sell it is to, for example, guys who shoot 44 magnums in a handgun, and who also want to hunt with lever action rifle in 44 magnum. The flight to the target with a FTX bullet is much better with the FTX version. Even at 50 or so yards.

Joe

I contemplated tips for a while and saw these a few years back but don't think they really offer anything to long range projectiles in their current design format. For short range, lever gun/pistol magazine loading I can see the advantages.

For that amount of money I'd suggest you'd have great fun with a benchtop hobby type injection moulding machine (see YouTube example: http://youtu.be/uD-kCf8amHk). Almost looks as simple as bullet casting.

Cutting Edge Bullets ESP Raptor Bullets are some very fine monolithic bullets. They have been tuned for expansion for the caliber. The 6.8 spc bullets are performing extremely well after some fine tuning of the weight and the HP depth after shooting many wild pigs and a few deer. Pretty pricey but they are working extremely well.

Marten, Those tips look a LOT liken the polymer tips that the ski industry uses to plug holes in skis.

Here's an Ebay listing for small packages of them, if anyone wants to mess around with some:

Marten, How are you going to lock these into the core, I'm also interested just to try them.

The ones Martin is showing look a bit better than the ebay ones, but how cool would it be going to the range and shooting some pink tipped boolits Duke? The guys I shoot with sure would get a kick out of it!

Anyone want to make some Breast Cancer Awareness projectiles?

Martin, where are you getting those?

Nice try, clueless as usual, nothing at all to do with skis.

Sprinkintime - Marten, How are you going to lock these into the core, I'm also interested just to try them.

They will lock into the core as part of the point forming process. We have some ideas about these tips that need to be explored on another project at the moment.

They are my design for some testing that we are doing, hence not actually putting up any dimensions materials etc.
Unfortunately these are prototypes and not available to anyone, that will change if and when we decide to go to production.

I really do not expect any better from the resident bt shill / 'expert'.

I can see the Breast Cancer Awareness slogan now "Show us ya TIPS"... possibly not so lost the Australian audience.
