Well, its a start anyway.

I have a bunch of IMI/Samson 9mm ammo loaded w 158gr jacketed RN. This ammo is TERRIBLE: inconsistent loads- some loud BANG, some subsonic; lousy accuracy.

Been looking for a 9mmload to pull these bullets and reload with- to no avail.

but i was wondering abt the fit of a 9mm in a 410 shotcup...

More later.

I was looking this over, surfing the net and found a few things:
1. no need to try a Tri-ball 410, as buckshot loads already exist. not saying they cant be imnporvied upon, but they are already around in relative abundance.
2. heavy slugs to 180-210 gr have already been developed for smoothebores.
3. hoening (now defunct) did awesome w the rifled slugs

So while my jacketed slug idea is sorta novel, looks like the 410FH rpoject is going to be put on indefinite hold. if I do anythign with it, i will just stick it in w my next test results for 12ga.

Howdy !

I've wondered whether #000 buckshot might not work in a .410 bore ?...
At least, for closer ranges ? If not compatible w/ a .357" cal 2pc shot "cup" ( Speer ), perhaps it would be workable w/ conventional .410 plastic wads or cups ?
Or maybe...... w/ a cloth patch, ala' round ball use in cap N' ball revolvers ?....
Or maybe..... paper patch a .357" cal 148rg WC ( example ), and surround it with the "shot cup" ?

There might be an occasional .357" cal tradtitional cast bullet design, that is aerodynamically stable for flight....even when un-rotated ( smooth bore use ).

Federal makes a 3" shell with 5 - 000 pellets that's a pretty amazing performer.

Yeah, its not that i dont have ideas. its that hey woudl just be variations on a theme, and no real diff from what is commerically available.
Now, if we coudl do domethign like Hoening did with theirs but usable in a smoothbore 9doube long frojectiles would stabilize), then that would be something.

Hogtamer, did you get my PM?

Well if the shotcup pedals were about .020 thick, then a 375 cast should fit in the shotcup. 2 x .020 = .040 + .375 = .415 if it is a soft cast depending on choke constriction. I'm not sure for what range though out of a smoothbore but if if was a hollow base type of slug, then maybe some type of accuracy could be acquired. I wonder if you could draw a 41 cal or 416 cal broach or button through the choke if it was full, you might have something like a rifled choke tube then.

A paradox 410. I like it, OnHoPr.
Dont know which reamer to look for, though.
Something that would engrave some very slow (1"in60" to 1" in 100") rifling.
