Just picked up one of the Baikal side by side double rifles in 45-70 like new in the original box.
Does anyone here have one?

If so, please let me know what load works for your rifle. I'd love to take her along on my moose hunt this fall if I can get an accurate load.

Thanks

The load that worked for me was 330 grain cast over 40 grains of IMR3031. I shot my cow moose with it in Maine last month :)

groovy mike;
I just picked up a preowned Baikal, like yours. Mine didn't have an owners manual w/it.
Did you get one? Does it tell how to regulate the bbls?
I havn't shot mine yet.

Pepe Ray, there are a couple good sites on google about how to regulate barrels.

There are two versions of the manual – both say to adjust with the screw between the barrels (underside). One manual says that that one barrel moves and the other does not. The other version of the manual says that both barrels move.

Is your barrel pressure marked?
here is some info that may help w load development:
"On the side of the barrel of my 45.70 it says:

"Warning Maximum Operating Pressure 2200 BAR Or 31900 HST"

IIRC, 2200 Bar is 31,908 PSI (1 Bar is 14.5038 PSI)"

I have one and my biceps are as big as Arnie the Terminators from opening the action.
And it never seems to loosen up.
Boy is that b/o action stiff.:groner:

I like 16gr of Trail boss under a 330gr PP boolit.
