I have these 2 barrels along time and I now put them each on a vz24 action (large ring mauser). They are 12 inch twist. What cartridge would be best for this twist from your view point? I plan on being cast only with them. I can not find much info on 12 inch twist in 35 cal. I want to ream the one in 35 remington if that is a good choice for 12 inch twist. Your input is highly appreciated for once the reamer is in the barrel it is settled.

I bet Waksupi says 358.

1-14 is ideal for 35 cal with 200 grain boolits.
You'res would be ideal for 250gr + I would think.
I do give a big tumbs up to 358 winchester. 35 remington is better IMHO, but so hard to find quality brass for.

I figured the 12 inch will want heavies. The RD190 is the heaviest mold I have so a couple others are to be needed. Talking about brass, in one of my inspirations to turn a winny 94 30-30 into a rimmed 35 remington it could be done with 303 brit brass, cut off most of neck and resize into 35 remmy and a neat rimmed 35 remmington case. I didn't think the money to rebore was worth it, but it would be a fun gun.

Well, I may surprise many by not immediately saying .358 Win. I built one on the VZ24, and found it was a struggle to get reliable feeding with the .308 cartridge shape. I ended up soldering a piece of metal on the side of the magazine to fix my over zealous metal removal. That was back before I knew how difficult it can be to get that particular configuration to work in an action not designed for it.
I would put together some dummy cartridges in .358 Win, and .35 Whelen, and see which one wants to work. You may even want to consider a .35X57 to ease feeding problems.

thanks for that caution. I will try some dummies in the action and where can I get info on the 35x37, would JES help on that? I often wondered why nobody turned the 7mm (on 95 actions) into a 35 but maybe that is what you are referring to.

35X57 would be a necked up 8X57. The VZ 24 was made for that chambering. Close to the .35 Whelen, and a more efficient size for cast boolits. I suspect lower end Whelen loads would be where you would end up.

ok I got it now, at times I am a little slow. So I now start looking at reamers and dies. thanks for the input!

I like the 9x56/57 idea, I shoot two M/S in 9x56MS and they are accurate. Only drawback from your point is the reamers. I would lean to the Whelen, potential at the top end and no feed issues in the VZ24. The 35Rem is more of a "I got one an you dont" thing in a bolt gun, the bolt face/rim is smaller on the Remington too.. I do have fun with the 141s though, and the 250gr cast are thumpers in that short bbl pumper....

the 9x57 would be the clear winner as far as easy feeding.
and with the case velocity being between the 358 win and 35 whelen it would stabilize a large range of boolit weight over a large velocity window.

i wouldn't even flinch at the 1-12 twist rate, 2400 fps should be a cake walk.

Probly the .358 has feeding problems due to shoulder size and the location of the shoulder. As for size the 35 ACK imp has just as much or more shoulder and feeds well, so location of the shoulder well back is probly the problem. Headsize on the 06 headsize and the X57 headsize; they are the same, no difference, not the problem. The cz 98 action is borderline in length for an 06 case, but not a problem yet.
