Know how to destroy a 338 Marlin? When reloading, accidentally grab a container of pistol powder instead of rifle powder and drop 50 grains in the case. When you pull the trigger you can watch the barrel peel open like a banana and fly off the receiver. The shop owner said that the guy who did this was only slightly hurt, so at least he had that going for him. Just something for all of us to keep in mind.:)

Nice display piece (pieces) now.
Glad the shooter/reloader is not seriously injured.

Quite similar to a problem I had with Hercules years ago. Their powder containers all looked the same also. But my experience was using rifle powder in stead of Red Dot shotgun powder. The delayed firings had 5 ft flash's beyond the 30" barrel on my 870. Lucky I didn't split my stock at its pistol grip.

Was it Acc-7 instead of ReL-7. That will launch a barrel. The man owes his handsome face to a strong Marlin and a gracious God.

It's a sad end to a nice Marlin 336. You have to watch what you're doing at the bench or this will happen.

Those two powders don't even look like each other. At least take a look at what you are putting into your powder measure, folks! The guy must have had his off hand on the rear bag and not on the forend. He is lucky.

The rifle isn't a total loss....the grip cap is still good.

WOW!

Personally I would rather throw 7 one hundred dollar bills out the window at a hundred miles an hour, than watch that thing come apart that close to my face.

Stop whining about the Marlin and tell us the muzzle velocity. He might be on to something.

Heck, Remington screws up way more rifles everyday.... that they ship out labeled as "Marlins"

-Sorry, couldn't resist... :)

The weak spot that is discussed about while doing other things is probably what saved him. The thin area between the barrel and magazine tube in the front of receiver, looks like she blew to six o'clock and most appears to have went down and forward. UGLY, bet he has a new outlook on life! Gtek

Obviously a defective design... We just need to re-engineer it a bit with a "Tim Allen" approach. The barrel is too thin and so is the receiver. Let's start with another inch thickness on the receiver and another 3/4" on the diameter of the barrel. We don't need no stinkin' 8-lb rifle anyway, right? :)

That is one way to make a bipod for another project rifle.

I'm sure the muzzle was traveling at least 200 fps. I'm glad the shooter wasn't hurt, and I'm glad I wasn't nearby.
